mmmmmm 50L.... I'd like to possibly sell my 430ex and 1.8 to fund a 50mm 1.4...but then again I use the flash...ahhh, I hate decisions.

I ditched my 50mm when I was using the 40D, but using it on the Canon 1D now makes me regret that I sold it. The bokeh on a 1.3crop is better than on a 1.6, and the shorter range is nice to have

I've been really happy with the level of detail that can be pulled from the 4mp sensor,

Here's a photo taken at 4mp with a crop 100% shown below it.

that's great!

what matrix do you all usually use? I've got mine on 1 at the moment. Need to change them up and see what happens.

also, what about the Parameters setting. I can't change mine without software and firewire right? Should I even worry about that? I can always just adjust things in DPP and PSE&, right?

Just got mine about 2 weeks ago. I have been pretty happy with the results so far. Battery life is kind of a bummer, especially since i am trying to get some shots in the snow today. Tell me what you guys think of this photo though. I was just playing and wound up with some Desktop Background material...

I am using 1. I only shoot in tif so at this point I don't even know if it matters.

I don't know - the difference in tif and jpg is confusing to me.

what do you think of this?

flash was used (bounced), I just sharpened and reduced noise (ISO was 640)

The tif file on the 1D is what they call the RAW file which enables the file to be adjusted heaps more in canons DPP , photoshop , Lightroom etc than a jpeg file.It gives you more scope and lets you adjust whitebalance, shadows and highlights, correct noise, etc etc .It is like the digital version of a film negative ,you can adjust it and make a copy in jpg form as many times as you wish but still retain the as shot RAW file just as you can with a film negative

thanks for the explanation!

I did notice that they are much easier to work with in DPP. I was going to ask if anyone else thought that but then I thought it must be in my head. You just confirmed what I was thinking!

to post on the web or to be printed, you have to save it as jpg, right? I couldn't download my pic to photobucket as a tif file.
