Well having come from an XTI/400D where I had the ussual kit lens and then went to a Tamron 17-50 I then started collecting used glass which work well with both bodies.the 24-85 usm ,28-135 is usm 50 f1.8,70-210 usm,old 28-70 f3.5.100-300 usm,24-70 f2.8 L and lately a ef 100 f2.0.All of which I purchased on the net after reading lens reviews,I haven't had a dud yet and haven't spent a truck load of money and can all be shared with my EOS-1 & 5 film bodies and 400D & 1D more modern stuff

i was thinking about the 28 -135. It works well with the 1D?

that's a niceassortment you've got!

Yeah for a lens you don't pay much for it is of good build quality ,distorts a bit at 24 but is very sharp with good colour and contrast, bought it cos I couldn't afford the efs 17-85 and very pleased I did as it is better,as I collected more lenes I gave it to my daughter for her 450d .Also makes an excelent everyday lens for the 1.3 crop 1D.

You can but you'll need a Firewire cable and I believe you'll definitely need Windows XP. And that goes for the Classic and the Mark II.

Or a Mac. I don't have it on mine, but I was told (when I got my 1D classic) that you can find software to shoot it from a Mac with Leopard/Snow Leopard on it.

The 28-135 is an ok lens. It's a great step up from 18-55s and stuff, and it's probably the best non-expensive variable aperture zoom, but a 1D deserves more IMHO.

My walk around zoom is a Sigma 24-70 EX 2.8 Macro, and I love it. It's a tiny bit soft at 70mm and 2.8, but it's sharp other than that. Also 24 is plenty wide on a 1.3, I don't think 28 will be that much different.

How did you do this check, and please better define neon spots.

I love this lens. I picked up an all but new copy with a great condition 20D for $500 this summer. Best deal I've gotten in a long time. ;)
