But there is one thing bothering me. When I press the shutter halfway down, the auto focus will not engage. Instead, I have to push that focusing button with my thumb to activate auto focus. Now I love this, but I was just wondering if there is a function that disables auto focus when pressing the shutter halfway down? Just couldn't find anything in the user manual.

Check your custom functions, I forget which one it is exactly but you have it set so that focusing is done with the back button.

does using that button to autofocus a better option compared to half pressing the shutter?

Thanks man, I'll try that when I get home. :)

By the way, is there a difference in the viewfinder size and brightness when comparing the Classic to the Mark IIN / Mark III?

Yes, they get bigger and brighter, but IMO not so much that one would really notice as the 1D is nice and bright anyway.

Not quite sure how I feel about this one, but the gunline guys seem to like it. A bit hard to see the round coming out the tube this time, and I dont like the fact I cut off some of the smoke. Oh well.

Well, now I've used all the power on the 3 batteries that came with my 1D. Still waiting for the charger to clear customs here in Norway. That kind of sucks.

But anyways, I have been able to take quite a few photos, and the two things that strike me about this camera is the pretty low dynamic range and of course resolution, compared to my 1000D. On the latter, I'm able to recover a lot of detail from overexposed highlights, whereas on the 1D, not quite as much. I'd love to be able to crop quite a bit more too.

So what I'll probably need in the future is the same build quality and lovely viewfinder and all that, but more dynamic range and resolution. Does anyone know if the MKII or 1Ds have noticeably more dynamic range? Both can be had really cheap second hand over here.

I've read on here that the first generation 1D cameras had 2 stops less dynamic range than all the latter ones. Don't take that as gospel though...
