The mk2 has a purely mechanical shutter since they switched to the CMOS sensor that can't simply be switched on like the CCD of the original 1D. You definitely hear more about mk2 shutter failures, but that's probably because they are more widely used these days.

I absolutely loved my Nikon D40 and its CCD sensor. the flash sync speed of 1/500th was simply amazing in a camera that size. even though it was only 6.1 mp, there were a lot more keepers shooting in jpg than with my 40D, probably because the LCD on the Nikon was much better. I also feel like my copy was the sharpest ever produced
