I need to get a back up for my 1D Mark II n and I'm leaning toward the 1D. I'm shooting kids sports on the side. I'm wondering if 4.15 mega pixels would work for client pictures. If they want something bigger than 8x10 I'm kinda screwed. I can't afford another 1D2 n body right now. Would I be OK with a 1D Classic?

I've printed 2 24x36s from scanned negatives with file sizes smaller than the 1D native. They look fine. I personally wouldn't be worried about printing that big from 1D files, though I'm not selling prints, just making them for personal use.

Well, the weather here in the North East has been brutal to say the least. Really nice days and really wet days. Been tough to get out and shoot. Here are a few from the last week that I had an opportunity to shoot a couple of games.

All shot with the 1D Classic, Sigma 100-300. All are cropped for the web.

Having field access makes all the difference for me. Really allows me to get in tight. Have to work on getting some different angles as the season moves on.

Let me know what you think.

Scott

Those look really good. Great color balance as well. Did you shoot RAW and convert?

I joined the 1D club today with a bargain rated unit from KEH.

It's seen it's fair share of action, clearly. It's got about 150k on the shutter.

Feels great in the hands, although part of the grip is peeling. It's missing the eyecup, but the included OEM charger and battery look brand new. The hotshoe was bent, but I was able to coax it back into shape.

I have to admit I love the way this things feels. The menus are a pain to get used to, and I don't have a firewire cable to change the personal settings. The AF assist appears to be off by default, which I don't like.

I'm really happy with this purchase. I'll put it thru its paces this weekend.

And just a quick test shot from the camera. EF 100mm macro / 430EXII.

I love the image quality this thing produces. Shot in RAW, converted in DPP with defaults.

Just picked one of these up as second camera.:D
Love the picture size and speed of processing with the files.
I shoot raw only with this baby.
Ordered a new battery off of Ebay, and hope to have more fun with this monster!
Shutter has 90,000 on it according to 1D count.:p

For the newbies.... Order lots of batteries. The beast drinks them quickly and you will not want to sit around waiting for it to charge.

Nice shutter count Hem. Of course the weekend here is total crap, and I can only shoot so much inside the house.

So far the Canon battery my 1D came with seems to be holding it's own. I've already got a Lenmar and a replacement eyecup waiting in my amazon shopping cart, though.

Wow, it looks just like mine and in the same condition, no eye cup and bent hotshoe. I think mine was taken through a tour in the Middle East though, the original Canon Strap was covered in desert sand and was ripping. And it still works amazingly.

And for the record (as if it hasn't been stated before) the Lenmar NMIH 1D batteries are amazing. I can get like 600 photos out of a single battery use while still reviewing photos. (external link)

It's been around the block, that much is certain. The only thing that make operation a bit annoying is that the shutter buttons are both a bit worn, and they don't really spring back very well, so you'll rattle off 2-3 shots almost every time if you're in continuous. My 10D and Rebel have a much more tactile feel to the shutter button. This actually reminds me a bit of my EOS100, where you can't even feel the half press anymore.

I didn't get the straps, battery cover or DC coupler thing, but for the price I can't complain at all. I need to shoot a nice bright sky to check for dust, but so far I haven't been able to find any on the sensor. I think we've all seen those posts where someone gets a used camera and it shows up with half a ton of dirt on the sensor. I want to take the thing outside and rip off some shots of the dogs to really test out this miracle autofocus everyone loves, but it poured all day yesterday and today is gray and crappy.

Yep, that's the one in my amazon cart, lol. I've read every post in this thread and I don't recall a single person saying they regretted buying them.
