I have a chance to pickup a 1D for $300 or trade 2 PW Plus II, camera is in good shape, 10,000 actuations on as rating of 1-10 I would rate it at 9+. Does this sound like a good deal.

Do it!

I thought I got a decent deal lately on my 1D, but this one blows it out of the water

maybe ask him for a recent shot to check actual actuations (can count)

I snapped a photo with it and Photo Mechanic and EXIF Viewer shows it at 10764, I will probably do it, this camera will be used mainly as a remote camera or I might even convert it to infrared.

My one is showing 8313 in the EXIF data and on the back of the camera, but it says folder 100 on the back of the camera, so i'm thinking mine has 108,313 shots on it?

Am i working that out right? also it's had the shutter changed so it's nothing to worry about is it.

No, the folder # has nothing to do it it... its rather arbitrary really. Someone else can explain it better.

Ok,

Can the count be reset by canon?? I have no paperwork ( which is odd) but the man i brought it off said it had had it's shutter replaced so maybe the count was reset then??? just a guess.

I got mine for 330€ with the older Sigma 14mm 3.5 lens.

Lovelovelove it, except it eats batteries quickly (about 200 shots with a full battery) but those are cheap.

The count on the shutter can be replaced and reset using the software that canon has. It's software that's restricted at the canon facility so there's extremely little chance of it getting out.

If you change the CPU card, it will also reset the settings.

Replacing the shutter - the CPU can then be communicated via software to be reset.

So it's been said that you can't just put any old lens on the 1D, the get anything good out of it you need good glass.

The 50 1.8 is a good lens, cheap but good. but what about on the 1D???

I have a 50mm 1.8 MKI and it works beautifully with 1D. Not the fastest focus lens but great IQ and cheap.

I will post some test shots when I got home.
