well, taking a quick peek at your gear list, I think your 17-85 will be incompatible with the 1d, so that might affect your decision. and if you doing portraits and landscapes, you probably should stick with the 40d, another feature you might miss is the bigger LCD and review zoom.

you should be able to print 8x10's (around A4 in Germany?)

If i would decide to get a 1D, i will sell the 40D inclunding the 17-85... and probably get me a 24-105L or 17-40L. i dont need telephotolenses at the moment.

hmmm, with that amount, you would be close enough to get a 16-35?

I´m sure a lense like this will follow. But @ first i´ll need a 1D :P
And also an additional lense to my 50mm 1.8.
like a every-day-lense :P
But i already checked your flickr...amazing pictures...should sound a bit jealous :P

Keep in mind- firewire port or not, there are no Vista drivers for the 1D Mark I or II. I'm in that dilemma myself. I'm going to have to re-install XP and dual boot just to change my 1D Personal Functions.

Actually the XP drivers work fine with Vista.

Anyone tried the 24-85 lens? for those of us who can't go to the L glass yet.

Ace about the XP drivers, thanks Terjay.

Another dumb question, why are some of my 1D files opening up as 288x192 size files and some are 2464x1648, even if there taken one after the other? Odd..

The 288x192 are the RAW (*.tif) files... its showing the dimensions of the embedded thumbnail rather than the actual image dimensions.

I have the 24-85mm on my 1D. I bought it to replace the 28-135mm that I got when I first bought the 1D. The 24-85mm is that bit wider, but also half the size and weight. Just a handy lens.
