Actually the XP drivers work fine with Vista.

I'm not seeing that. It might be because I'm using Vista x64.

you guys are very bad, i was a very happy 40D Owner, but i went through all of these 78 pages, and now i wanna have a 1D.
I never print Pictures,...Webgalleries, and so is my usage of them.
Is a change worth it?
Will i miss Features?
Thanks for your help.

Why change?
Keep the 40D, and add a 1Dino. A fellow on POTN recently bought one for $300 . I got mine a while back for €350 :)

2 slr's are more important then one might think. I thought I would be fine just with one slr but when it came down to switching lenses and making sure I didn't miss an important shot I was let down. I was too slow and lost the shot.

2 bodies are useful. I have my 1D with 70-200mm f/2.8 and my XTI with 24-70mm f/2.8 so I can get every shot I need too without downtime of changing lenses etc

Ok this makes sense when shooting fast events like sports or so...
my favorite is portrait and so i wont chance lenses so fast and miss a shot ´cause the model can wait :P
i thought i would sell my 40D when ordering a 1D...but you´re confusing me so bad :P

Everyone has a different style of shooting. So what's normal for one photographer is different for another.

If your comfortable with only one camera that's fine there is nothing against it! I'm just saying that you might want to keep the 40d and buy a 1D for cheap. Either way both cameras are excellent :)

Sure everybody has his own style of shooting.
i´m a one-lense-user at the moment cause i fell in love with my nifty fifty.
sure i will buy something like 24-105l like i said before. but i never had to switch my lense fast and missed a shoot.

But i´m confused, will a 1D be "enough" for me? 4.3MP on portrait shooting?

Megapixels don't really matter. Its your lighting situation. In low light this camera suffers a bit, but if you are outdoors or somewhere with a lot of light you will be perfect.

Yeah, well that's a whole different ballgame. Works fine on 32-bit Vista though.

Above ISO 800 with natural light I don't care for 1D files. Flashed/strobed, up to 1250 was OK. Never cared for the 1600 files and 3200 - well I guess if you really needed the shot.

Has the 1D got a memory limit?

ie, i put a 4GB card in and it shows the same as when i put a 2GB card in.

Thanks

I've noticed the same, but I think it takes 2-3 shots to bring the 1d count 'down' ( I custom functioned the count to the rear bottom LCD)

that said, where does one put in the custom tonal curves into the 1d? DPP? (I'm on a mac right now)
