Finally got the right firewire cable and the software installed on my PC to play around with the in-camera settings. Bumped the sharpness up a bit and you can really get some crisp images out of this camera with no processing for sure. A quick shot in my garage.......not art by any means.

Shot at ISO 320......no sharpness or contrast added.......maybe a touch under-exposed.

Looks like my garage.. heh! Nice sharp shot, what lens was that? Are you shooting JPG or RAW?

Did you get a flash to try with it?

You should get very similar image quality from the 24-70mm. These two Sigma EX lenses are some of the best values around in a normal zoom range lens with a fixed aperture.

I have a Tamron 17-50 2.8 DiII for my 400d, I know that it is for the 1.6 crop but would anyone know if it would work with the 1.3 crop?

Regards,
Jason.

Sorry guys, should have posted this question in the lens forum.

Answered my own question, feel like a dumb arse! :)

Jason.

Getting ready for takeoff......

Canon EOS-1D, f/2.8 @ 60 mm, 1/40, ISO 400

The noise in the 1D shots - even though it may be there - is not as 'intrusive' in the photos as noise from some other cameras that I have owned. (At least up to a certain point.)

I think some people are seeing the shallower DOF you get with 1.3x crop and may think thier pics are noisier too. 1.6x crop has about a stop more DOF in the same framing.

My 1Dmk1 was looking old and worn - pale grey colour - so gave it a once over with some rubber restorer.
Now looks almost as good as my 10 month old 5D.
