My 1Dmk1 was looking old and worn - pale grey colour - so gave it a once over with some rubber restorer.
Now looks almost as good as my 10 month old 5D.

I have another question...what kind of strap do you have there mounted to the side?

Canon E1 handstraps and Optech neck straps.
Hand strap makes a HUGE difference to handling the camera, but can be a pain if you shoot a lot in portrait orientation.

Do you mean something like Armor All that we have here in the states? Oddly enough I posted a photo of a can of Armor All in my garage a page back.

I would think that Armor All or other protectants like it would make the 1D slick and harder to grip though.....

I wouldnt use Armor All. Ive seen it raise paint off of plastic surfaces on our cars. It also causes electrical malfuntions if it gets into switches.

Yeah I wouldn't either......I'm curious as to what the post above actually used though.

Nice, and another member in the 1D Classic group :)
I love my 1D already so much, love the speed and handling.
The Body feels 1000 times better than my sold 40D...

once you´ve tried a 1D...you´ll never go back to XXD :D...
i´m lokking forward for a 1D MkIII right now :D may be this summer...

That is my case as well. I simply love its 1Dness:D and performance + viewfinder for alternative lenses.
Sometimes i think MK II or 1Ds would be better because more MP's is associated with better pictures in my mind. But reality is different as i realize that breathtaking pictures are doable even with 3MP EOS D30! Sometimes i forget how lucky amateur i am to have an opportunity to own such a masterpiece camera. It offers a great potential for growing everybody's photography skills.

My 1D has now been relegated to backup body designation. The 1DmkII is the primary one now.

No definately not ArmorAll. Didnt want it too glossy or slippery.
Its a paste similar to car polish but specifically made for restoring the colour on black plastic external trim on cars.

Here's a pic from before the resto:

Hi Guys/Gals,
I have a couple of questions... I just got a 1D classic a couple of weeks ago but haven't gotten a chance to play with it much it yet. What would be the best firewire cable and software to use with it, as I didn't get either of these with the camera.

Thanks for any help.

You can buy software disks on Ebay for like 10 bucks. Someone on this forum has a link to a download of a software ISO too if you can find it. A standard 6 pin firewire cable should work. Once you get any version of the software you can download drivers from Canon and update to the latest versions of all the software. You might find the original 1D cable on Ebay if you do a search.

Edit... I just found this in another thread as an alternative

"If the original CDs were lost, there is a work around for Windows users..
Open Notepad and copy this text:

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Canon\DPP]
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Canon\ZoomBrowser EX]
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Canon\EOS Capture]
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Canon\EOSViewerUtility]
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Canon\PhotoStitch]

Save file and rename it to canon.reg
Double click on the file and answer Yes on prompt.

After that, download update software from Canon site and install it as it was the full version."
