I wouldnt use Armor All. Ive seen it raise paint off of plastic surfaces on our cars. It also causes electrical malfuntions if it gets into switches.

I used the Mr. Clean eraser. Works awesome. I clean all my stuff with it. (make sure you don't have too much water in the sponge though).

Hi Guys/Gals,
I have a couple of questions... I just got a 1D classic a couple of weeks ago but haven't gotten a chance to play with it much it yet. What would be the best firewire cable and software to use with it, as I didn't get either of these with the camera.

Thanks for any help.

Adam - the 1D that I just purchased did not come with the firewire cable either. I had to get a 4 pin to 6 pin cable as my laptop (and I think most up-to-date computers these days) did not have a 6 pin connector....it has the smaller 4 pin port. The 1D has the 6 pin port. I grabbed mine for $19 at my local camera shop - it was a Promaster brand.

I shot an event tonight for the American Cancer Society locally. I used high ISO's all night with my flash to get the ambient light to register. Here is shot from the 1D at ISO 500 that I thought looked pretty clean.....

I found the Classic does 640 pretty good too. I would keep a shot like that any day Bauerman. :)

Thanks guys, your help is much appreciated, especially during this "learning" phase. I'm anxious for my son's baseball season to get started, I want to see what I (or better yet the 1D) can do for us.

Bauerman, that is a nice pic.

The beast arrived! Man what a machine.

It will take a while to get my head around the menu but WOW. 400d to this, it's like going from a Kalashnikov to a 50 cal. (8 frames a sec just sounds cool :) ).

Just have to save some money for some good glass for it and I'll be right. Any suggestions on glass for it? (i know that it is an open ended question. fl no shorter that 17mm and no longer than 200)

It seems a waste to use nifty on it but it's all I got.

So...

I know its outside your range but I use mine exclusively with the image stabilised Sigma 150-500

If you want a real "bang for your buck" winner to attach to that "new" 1D - look for a used copy of the Sigma 24-60mm f/2.8 EX. Extremely high image quality, great bokeh characteristics, constant aperture and EX level build quality. You can find them for just over $200 a lot of the time. This will give you image quality that is approaching if not touching "L" quality for a pittance.

You can also look for less than perfect copies of the 80-200 2.8L Magic Drainpipe. Ive found them for as little as 400.00 and they rock.

got my sigma 24-70EX 2.8 today...love this lense, nice IQ and pretty fast AF even it´s not an USM.
But it feels very nice on the 1D...i like lenses that are bigger and heavier...feels better on the 1D :)

And the 24-70mm Sigma IS certainly a big, heavy lens....that is for sure. Almost seems wrong to add a lens to a camera like the 1D that has poor build quality! Luckily it cannot accept EF-S lenses so the kit lens is not even an option! :D

the Sigma feels well build...i have nothing to say about this one...it´s heavy and big..yes. but also gives the cam a kind of weight to the front...nice for my handling.
and again buildquality is good to pretty good. got mine used from a guy who bought it in december 08...almoust never used so like new :D

I have the Sigma 24-70 also. Its fairly large and has some weight, but compared to my Magic Drainpipe it is still pretty light.. :)
