I am considering getting a Westcott 45" Round Halo softbox (basically a brolly box). The reason I am thinking of choosing this one is partly because it mounts to the light stand via a standard umbrella mount with the flash head inside and without a speed ring. Im looking for this to work in conjunction with a Westcott Apollo 28" softbox (maybe a 50" if someone can justify to me how much better the larger softbox wouldbe) for an on location single person portraiture setup. Anyone have any experience with these and care to comment. No matter what I searched under I couldnt get anything to come up for it. Looks like no one had created a thread for it... I am looking to use this on a Bogen 3336 stand and with a 580EX II flash.

For those who dont know what it is, they look like this: LINK (external link)

Any reasons why I shouldnt get this, should get something else, or should get this are all appreciated.

Thanks everyone! :D

I don't have any experience with this particular model but I do have 46" softliter II that I use in conjunction with the 28" Apollo. I really like the photek and I use it with Vivitar 285HV's and a 430ex. If you're considering the 50" apollo just remember this... if you on location and space is an issue the 50" may be too big. Even the 28" takes up quite a bit of space. For low ceilings it can make it hard to get the height you may want. I'm sure the 50" apollo is more than capable with a hotshoe flash just beware of the spacing issue.

Yea concerning the 50": I just pulled out a tape measure and man 50" is bigger than it sounds. I think I will start with the 28" and if nothing else will keep it for 3/4 shots or smaller and perhaps get the 50" if I feel I need it later. Or perhaps by then Ill have a studio and studio lighting :) Hey one can dream right?

I think you'll be surprised that you will be able to get some full lenth shots with either the 45" Halo or 46" Softliter II. Take these for instance. The Softliter II was the main and a 45" Westcott double for a small bit of fill.

Typically I use the softliter II behind me and the camera for fill (since it's so large) but in these shots I used it as the mainlight.
