After another great trip into Scandinavia, to one of my favourite events on the WRC Calendar, here's a few of the shots I got on a not so cold and at times really misty rally Sweden.

Jarri Matti Latvala

That looks like it would be a lot of fun.

OT: Why are the front tyres so narrow?

Much better grip, a big tyre won't get as much contact with the ground when it's covered in snow. Very nice shots to ;)

OT: Why are the front tyres so narrow?

Helps the tyres push through the snow to the ice below to get better traction- they also had spikes for the same reason. Since the snow and ice didn't materialise quite as much as expected I understand they didn't really do the job.

Reports in the rally press suggest next year they will be on standard gravel tyres for Sweden.

Very nice shots, but the Henning shot in particular seems a bit overdone on the contrast. I think that shade of orange has burnt my retinas! I'm still jealous though .... roll on Rally NZ, only 9 rounds away!

Cracking shots Rob ... No.1 is probably my favorite of the set.

Are you sure No.4 was taken in Sweden and not Rally GB ;) lol

Cheers

Sweden will never become a gravel round TD, their roads just won't take it as the cost to resurface them far outweighs the money that they get from the WRC.... and there is no 2009 Sweden as it's in Norway next year..... there were also about 100 swedish national championship cars supposed to be running but they were cancelled early on Saturday morning about 2 hours before they were to start and this was because the roads just can't take the pace when there is no snow and ice on them....

Hennings car is one of those weird colours that changes with "the weather" so it will be a different colour depending on the conditions as in # 3 which was taken in heavy mist

This is a shot from last year and the colour is different again!!!

Hi Rob. My bad :o misquoted article....

"This years Swedish Rally will be the last with the cars using special skinny snow tyres, designed to push through the snow and find firm grip on the ice underneath. From next year, the snow tyre size will be the same as on the gravel rallies so that the teams do not need special wheels for one event"

Quote from Auto Action, the Oz equivalent of Autosport mag.

Hi Rob. My bad :o misquoted article....

Don't worry about it TD :D

Sweden is the "designated" snow rally, so I can't see that it will keep it's round of the WRC if snow can't be guaranteed :cry: and the rumours in Sweden, if to be believed, is that Sweden will lose it's round and it could well be replaced by Finland which has a far better chance of having snow in February....... which would be a real bummer as Finland is my fave summer round...........

Rob
