new member! need help with powershot SD630!

hey all

so i have a Canon Powershot SD 630 digital elph, 6 megapixel. it is a little over a year old. starting about 4 months ago, i started having a problem with it that ive never had with any of my 3 other canon digi cams.

i thought it was the battery....id charge it up almost all day...go somewhere, and it would lose its charge after maybe 5 of so pictures. i have 2 canon batteries, and the same thing was happening with both. i got a new battery and its STILL happening.

anyone have any experience with this? any suggestions?

You described a typical problem with exhausted batteries.
If the third battery you tried is a new one, then be sure that your battery charger is working properly before going any further.

The battery is new....i charged it overnight and then some, and the camera DOES turn out....but it will only last for a little while. Im currently using my roommates brand new charger to charge my other battery, to see if it makes a difference

anyone have a problem like this? do i need a new camera? its only 1 year old

Have you tried regular alkaline batteries?

If they last longer, then it could be your rechargeables.
Also, what is the mA/h rating on your rechargeables - are they lithium ion or ni-cads?

The SD630 DIGITAL ELPH (DIGITAL IXUS 65) accepts only the Battery Pack NB-4L (Lithium-ion Rechargeable battery), it does not accept AA batteries as the S3IS does.

I assume that using your roommate’s charger was of no help.

Does your batteries operate correctly o her/his camera? That may be a good test to try.

The SD630 also has another internal rechargeable battery to keep the built in date/time clock running.
You must recharge that battery as well:

Install a fully charged ND-4L in your camera and leave it overnight with the camera switch in the OFF position in order to recharge that internal battery. (Check the Basic User Guide page 4 for more details)

If this does not solve your problem either, your camera will need qualified service unless a SD630 user has some better idea.

Canon service can be expensive, ask them for an estimated service charge.

I that case, it could be a faulty battery as well - was the battery ever dropped?

You'll find out quickly enough when you try your other battery.
