Alright - Today was my first day out shooting with my own XT. Up till now I've just been stealing my husbands to take a few shoots here and there around the house. I'm looking for a little C&C on my shoots. All were took with my XT with the kit lens. Thanks

You did good, Nikki. Now, think about getting in a bit closer, then closer, and then even closer yet.

For instance, some of the rust and graffiti on that box car might have made for an excellent shot. Just my two cents.

Gary - You and my husband would get along! He's the guy in the yellow next to the box car taking pictures of the rust and rivits. :)

Like him already! I will admit I take some pretty weird stuff, and some strange and sometimes uncomplimentary comments, but I still like to get in close.

I understand the enthusiasm, but...
1/ You'll get better crit if you only post 1-2 images.

2/ IMAGE POSTING RULES only allow pics 1024 pixels or smaller. You can always just post a link to them, though.

Pish-tosh PhotosGuy :D im going to post the best critique I can give just to prove you wrong! More images = more fun.

But no, on a serious note lady bug, it does you more good to post a few get some good critique and then post some more if you want afterwards either in the same post or in a new one. The reason is that alot of people skim through first before deciding whether to really respond and the more images there are the better the chance someone will keep going on to another post. hehe i guess alot of people are too lazy to write alot for each image.

Ill do my best though on the ones that are visible without clicking on link. :)

Not sure what kinda post processing you do, if any, but im gonna give some advice on that too.

The first one is excellent. It is pretty dang sharp, the framing of the house by the tree on the right and by the other trees around is great. Really makes for a dynamic but not overly complicated image. This may be how the natural sky was, but it looks to me as if the sky surrounding the trees is lighter, a halo of sorts. If you feel like it I think it would maybe help a little to burn that halo area a little darker. there is one part which is flared and that cant be helped either accentuate it to make it seem like it is part of the image (easier) or try to attempt and remove it (harder imo).

I love the boxcar one as well. I think its really cool how it stands out against the bright and almost glowing snow. Maybe (if possible ???) try to make the contrast of the boxcar higher and leave the snow as is. If i visualize correctly i think it would make for another super dramatic shot.

I would like the swing alot more if the strings were alot more visible. You could do this by darkening the background, or by trying the shot again and framing a little differently.

The one of the bridge would be good if those annoying branches from that are front center werent there. Hey, sometimes you gotta destroy some bushes to make the shot  ;-)a The same goes for the wheelbarrow. Time to take out the machete on your next trek.

Hope this helped you out. I gotta stop typing, my fingers are bleeding.

I am Henry. NOT Hank. And certainly not a length of rope tied in a knot. ;)
My family calls me Hen, but you can call me Chicken. See you out there!

AlphaChicken - Thank you very much for taking the time to give your responces!:D I haven't done any processing on these yet, they are all straight from the camera!

Thanks again!

Nice composition in the first one. Good exposure, which is tough in snow. It's tilted a tiny bit to the right.

The second one is an interesting subject. However, I think it's too centered. The space on the left is wasted, in my opinion. Crop it out. Is there any chance of getting that vertical shadow off the wheel barrow's center?

The third one is nicely framed, but crop out the utility wires on the top.

I think the second set were overexposed. The snow looks blown out in areas.
