ugh, i was retrieving a card out of my MKII the ohter day, and it slipped from
my hands about 6 inches off the floor. the 24-70 hit front edge first. the camera
is fine, but shots from the lens are now noticeably softer. Off to Canon tomorrow.
Anyone ever had an impact repair done? I am expecting $250-300

I had mine repaired following a very similar accident. Luckily mine was optically OK, just a "bit bent".

Here in the UK it came in total to £149.01, including VAT. It was away a fraction over a month.

the lens shows no sign of any impact, the front element isnt loose either. But
it needs to be checked at least. I would hate to shoot an event and have soft pics

I have to admit mine fell about 3 feet before it hit the tarmac. Made quite a dent in the front rim and shattered the ND filter I was using into a million pieces. Had I been using it with the hood, it might have survived.

Tough lens though, almost but not quite bullet proof.
