so i just saw a segment on the news about Young America rebate company (the one that does the Canon rebates) and of course, they are talking about how this company scams people and have been sued in over 45 states so far and yet they are still in business. not sure why i am even posting it but since i have been scammed by these aholes for $250 in the last canon "rebates",i was happy to see them getting dragged through the mud :)

Not saying I don't believe it doesn't happen to others, but I've never had a problem with a Canon rebate. Yet.

I detest the concept of rebates in general, though. Please, just be up front and give me a sale price instead.

They also do SanDisk's rebates. Like photoguy6405, I haven't had problems getting my rebates to date.

for some reason, i never had a problem with the sandisk rebates. from what i got from the news segment, they do tons of rebates for the big companies like AT&T and other large corporations but they have been known to scam people.

from MSN Money article:

Meanwhile, Massachusetts, in conjunction with 40 other states, is taking on a company that handles rebates. It has sued the nation's largest rebate fulfillment company, Minnesota-based Young America Corp., demanding that it submit to an audit of the uncashed rebate checks it has kept in recent years -- money known in the industry as "slippage" -- in exchange for charging its clients lower processing fees.
Who keeps the uncashed checks?
According to SEC filings, Young America kept $42.9 million in uncashed rebates between 1995 and 2002. Massachusetts Treasurer Tim Cahill believes the company has held onto $129 million worth of uncashed checks.

Cahill believes this practice has provided incentive for Young America to cheat consumers. This money should be turned over to the states' abandoned property divisions so that consumers can claim it, he says.

The past two times I did rebates with Canon for bodies and lenses, they went to El Paso Texas, not Minnesota where Young American is based. This was in 2006 and 2007.

Yeah, right. More likely it will get slurped up into the government coffers after a minimal waiting period.

You want to make an example of these jerks? Force them to go through all of their records and properly disburse the refunds.
