at least i've narrowed it down to two :) so I'm feeling good.... need to buy it before the end of March :)

What TVs are you looking at? Dad recently bought a mammoth 42" Panasonic LCD (I think.. maybe plasma.. whatever, it's big :p) TV and I've got to say, given the price it's quite impressive. Really nice colour rendition and clarity.

I've narrowed it down to:

1. Samsung LA52F81BDX
2. Sony KDL52XDR

Both 52", both fullHD 100Hz LCDs.

I was trawling through some old photos this evening and came across a shot I'd taken 9 months ago from Logan's Inlet, Wivenhoe Dam, and a nearly identical shot from the end of February this year, so I whacked them together as a diptych.

Please forgive the lack of artistic style, these were shot purely for documentary purposes.

Hey.... clever pics
The first two are great being in mid air and all
Grumble, I can't get a decent one even if I use superglue on their legs

thanks ...but not my idea John - got the idea from a similar photo by Sam's dad.

Great shots! The jumping flies are great, number 1 in particular. :)

thanks Andrew

-spam- wrote in post #5084346 (external link)
Well, they turned out just perfect :)

Did you stand a bit further back just to catch them when they jump?

Thanks Sam. I just focused on them, then aimed up above them and adjusted the focuser a little forward or back. I haven't noticed any patterns in their jumping so it is definitely a lot of luck, but if you take enough you might get a few that work. Thank your dad for the inspiration too ;)

All very good shots. Those tiny flies are hard enough to get when they're still, let alone jumping!

Thanks Dave. They predictably jump when the flash goes off - just a matter of waiting for them to jump into view. They almost always return to the same spot for another try :)

Indeed, still couldn't launch a boat from the ramp, but it's an improvement :)

42" isn't that mammoth - fits nicely in a city apartment... :D:rolleyes:;)

But I can endorse an inbuilt hard drive which saves additional components, and needs only one remote.

Ironic that I already have a busy life, so have not checked this board over the weekend, and you folks organised a shoot outing, which is something I want to add to my busy life.

sigh . . .

Must check this board often!

Not really. The Sony is supposed to have the same panel, but the processing unit in the Sony is supposed to be better.

I was very happy that the house I bought had a HD projector built into the roof. So my movie viewing area is approx 60 x 120 inches.

And my wife has wanted me to save her from remotehell for a long time. The answer turned out to be the Logitech Harmony 525. Macro programmable remote that does it all, even the home theatre AV system. Can't speak highly enough about it and it was on special at Tricky dicks recently for $75.
