What sort of mac do you have? If its an intel one, cant you just install windows on it and run it via bootcamp?

Dual boot. So you dont lose all your windows programs when you switch to a mac. Dad would be doing that if he got one because of the programming stuff he needs that wont work on the mac.

Click on applications
utilities
therein you will find boot camp assistant and the not so lovely world of windozes will be there for you :)

On both my Mac though I use vmware fusion as it allows me to run Mac OSX and windows apps together

Okay, so fill me in. What exactly is the advantage of a Mac over a PC?

really depends on what you do... for me, I'm pretty happy on PC, but if I had plenty of disposable income to spend on a computer, then I'd get a mac pro.

To be honest, they're pretty much the same now days. Different OS, yes, but much the same format and both are customizable to the extent that they can be virtually identical in layout etc. Most programs come in Mac and Windows versions, and those that don't you can run using emulators on either OS anyway. That said, i prefer my MacBook to my PC desktop. It's smoother running, gets no viruses (even without any virus protection software), it doesn't have all the annoying prompts that you get every time you try to do anything on a PC ("you look like you're trying to move your mouse cursor - allow or decline?"), and I find it does everything I want without any hassle. There are always going to be fanboy-wars (kinda like Canon v Nikon, I guess!), but I think the reality is really that whichever suits you individually and whichever you personally prefer is the one that's the best.

Oh and Nick, I forgot to PM you, but the card reader arrived last week. Thanks a bunch :)
