I'll be 'in your area' at Easter

Hmm, Temora? (external link)

I was thinking about going along with my brother in law (we both love that kind of thing), but I don't think we'll be here at Easter.

yup

Wardie and I will be there on the Saturday.

We usually set up camp at the northern end of the airfield - too many plonkers standing in front of moving lenses at the actual museum - and the loudspeaker boxes are placed in such a way you are guaranteed to get at least one of them in a panning shot.

So we cart our own home comforts in and have a pleasant day shooting.

/Searching job ads.

Seriously, I just want 40 hrs/week at ~$20/hour please. Willing to do anything. Hire me? :(

So I shouldn't mention the 6 week contract I got at $40/hr for 8 hr/day. And I was thinking it was actually a low hourly rate...

you can run a programe
http://www.vmware.com/products/fusion/ (external link) that allows windows to run
about to try this tonight sometime as I really need my other plugins

There's also Parallels Desktop - my father uses it to run his genealogy program (the only Windows app he needs).

The Canon/Nikon analogy is kind of how I was looking at it.
People often talk about viruses and such in Windows but the number of times I've had trouble with my PCs could probably be counted on one hand.

You've obviously never worked in desktop support or had to provide computer support for relatives...

Nick C. wrote in post #5105860 (external link)
So basically it seems that if you know how to use a computer there is no advantage to a Mac. Only to lighten your back pocket.

No, Macs are for people who want to get things done and not have the computer get in the way. Between viruses, bugs, BSODs, and poor interface design, a Windows box just isn't that nice a place to work.

Stability is greatly improved in the Mac for the simple reason it's a closed system. i.e. the developers only need to code for specific hardware. This isn't the case with Windows, and as such stability is impacted.
And if your tools aren't stable, it makes working with them a chore.

Yeah, that'd be a good spot. If I was looking for part time/casual work then I'd just go to a cafe at Paddington and be a barista/waiter, but now that I've deferred uni and am planning for a ~6 month trip to Europe, I need to be earning as much as possible for the next 3-4 months! :o

Could you find work as a legal admin temp???

Firstly, if anyone wants some more backfocussing fun, click here..

Secondly, any more thoughts on a meet for this Monday? Asking because I have a work thing which won't finish until half six, and if I recall a couple of others are busy - Feng property settling, Sam "lechering" etc. Would it make sense to change days?

I am currently working overtime at work for the next few weeks so wouldn't be able to do anything till close to 6ish either.

So you're saying simplicity is the Mac advantage?

Yes, that's exactly it.

A computer is a tool to get stuff done, not an end in itself. As such, the best tools are the ones that require the least amount of brain activity to work out how to use them. That doesn't equate to a lack of power or usefulness, rather that someone thought about the design of the tool from a usability perspective.

Just the one where they are supporting operator please (i would go to see little red but leave when the main act started...)

A friend of mine had a sideshow gig at a Youth Week concert event down on the Gold Coast over Easter '06. The Presidents Bush (note lack of apostrophe), Operator Please and The Combovers were supporting The Winnie Coopers. This was, of course, when the OP kids were still in school and no-one outside the Gold Coast had heard of them.

Seriously... I was listening to OP's set wondering when it would end, and hoping I'd never hear of them again. And the rest is history. I have to admit, I find the film clip for Leave It Alone hilarious. :D

And i just want 15 hours a week at about $15 an hour. Applied for two jobs at DFO jindalee and hoping i get one of them just because how close i am to the store...

Stuff work. Someone give me a loan so I can buy some decent lenses and give Kayell a run for their money.

Oh btw... there are other companies in Brisbane that hire lenses. Photo Continental have a list that you can get from the front counter. Only problem is, these other companies don't have websites so naturally they've lost my interest.

Yeah, I guess.

Monday is the only good day for me as I am busy Tuesday and Wednesday and I leave for a miniature train gathering in Victoria on Thursday. No biggie... next time I'll come. :)

If these interstate moves continue, pretty soon Brisbane POTN will have to amalgamate with POTNAC.

Half of them already post here.

Point taken.
However, I stand by my initial comment. Simplicity is a function of knowledge. If someone already knows how to use a PC for a particular purpose there still seems to be no advantage in moving to a Mac. Going in the other direction could have its problems though.

There are ? Oh, no websites, yeah, that's usually a pre-req for my business these days.

Well if something works for you (that's the general you, not necessarily you personally), then there's no need to change. However, if you spend more time making your PC do what it's meant to, rather than doing what you're meant to be doing, I'd garner there's an advantage to change.
