Research for the right gear could be so addictive ... time to get the right ball head, cheap, light compact and strong ? Now, does the beast exist somewhere ???

I guess cheap is relative to your ability to pay. I have a 055ProB with the 322RC2 head and I LOVE the combination. And my darling wife bought them for me for Christmas a couple of years back!

Okay, here you go. I PS'd (or LR'd actually) up these two for a couple of 'teaser' pics.

Was out on Saturday for some driving adventures with the wife and boys and we accidentally found Morgan & Wacker at the Creek. So of course we went for a wander to check out the BMW side of the street, followed by the Harley side.

Some very chromy-gleaming-expensive goodness there. Could make for an interesting series of images.

I quite like the way he explains things. I have 3 of his books now. Saw that one on the shelf in NJ when I was there a couple of weeks back but decided not to buy it.

He's good if you're learning, but a few have commented on his "I metered off the sky, then repositioned. f/8 at 200mm, 1/250" statements under almost every photo, ie there is not much in the way of techo info provided for advanced photogs.

Having said that I think I've now got 5 or 6 of his books, as I am still learning. Things like going 2/3 stop under when shooting a lot of green, how to stop snow looking grey etc etc are all useful. I've read all the books cover to cover.

Hmmm - waiting for some fat-boy goodness ;)

On Sunday I met the guy who runs this site - really interesting chap, loads of fun and he is passionate about photography in it's most simplest form.

Though you folks might be interested in it if you've not seen the site before.

Wonder if he has one that can shot at 6.5 fps. I asked him if he had an L lens system to which he replied he could paint the tube any colour I wished ;-)a

John. Can you forward me the book you want to me via PM? I'm going to order tonight from home.

On a side note, i just got asked if I wanted to shoot a small formal dinner! :) They offered to pay too!!!!! dammit... might buy a mini strobist on location kit :)

Can anyone recommend any books on wedding photography apart from the Bill Hurter book?

PM sent

Gosh, your tax deductibility will be without question now :)

Weddings, shudder, as you know I was supposed to shoot one in NZ next month but i pulled out of it months ago - was getting too stressed over it. I'm happier in a studio where it's more controlled I've decided.

Icky greenish cast mode on first image looks darn good. Must steal that idea sometime:D

I'm pretty sure I just used the Lomo preset from the Killer Tips site that John often links to.

MDAQ have their Hog Ride coming up next month. That many Harleys on the road together is always a great sight.

The photo's a bit bland but here she is anyway:

They are rather sweet toy's.

I had a 3 year old MX5 and traded it in on the Merc 2 years ago - still miss my convertibles big time although my skin doctor is much happier it's vanished from my life.
