Heh - so after tax, it really cost a grand!

On that note, does anyone know for sure (or know where I can find out for sure) what the deal is with claiming camera gear against taxable income? Does it work similar to claiming a computer whereby it depreciates to zero over the three (or other) year period, or is it something different?

I was trying to work out what/how much I can likely claim, but wasn't sure what the deal was with camera gear in that sense.

If it's your business, or an aspect of your business then as far as I'm concerned (and the way my accountant depreciates mine) is the samea s computer gear as it is a 'tool of the trade' or a work tool or whatever they want to call it.

Provided you can show that it is a business, and that you are making assessable income from it you should be able to depreciate your gear no worries at all. But talk to an accountant and let them sort it out for you.

WHAT, no coffee? Sacrilege!

Re claiming, the general rule of thumb is that the time frame over which you can claim depends upon the inherent life of the item being claimed. Also, you can claim a flat rate each year (if life is greater than one year) or a reducing value. Have a look hereand herefor a bit more info.

Of course we do, we have some of the best coffee farms in aust, and nowhere that sells it
