just out of curiosity, what do you do John?
Usually, as little as possible. I have managed to succeed at it since being in Canberra
My current title is Technical IT Consultant to Federal Government but, when I really get motivated, I sell myself to private companies too.
The Brissy trip is to audit a systems security levels and propose any changes.
Many years ago I looked at the security audits I was doing and how labour intensive it all was - so I decided to create a workflow to minimise the work.
So - for an audit, for example, I will go onto a site - download specific table contents from their database (it will be either Oracle, MS-SQL or DB2) and load the contents into an Access database I have developed. All the queries run and hey, presto, bing - in a few seconds I can report all their security problems - but I tend to let them sweat for a billable day or two before sending the news - that way I can recover some of the investment I put into the Access database tools.
Easy peasy stuff - but I don't only do audits. I install, upgrade and advise departments when they hire someone else to install or upgrade...
And if I can keep it to 2 days a week or less, I am well pleased.
