Got my EF-s focusing screen today. The installation on my 40D was VERY easy, took about 30s. I really love it, for fast lens, it gives a much better feel on the DOF, basically separating the in focus and out-of-focus areas much better than the standard screen. I highly recommend this screen for all 40D users who got fast lenses (2.8 or faster). Don't know about the EF-D, but the EF-S is really great!!

It's too bad all your lenses are fast...
One of the Katz eye screen's 'selling points' are that it won't "black out" when using slower lenses (100-400) + 1.4X.
I'm curious if this screen does black out.. I've not been able to get the Katz Eye to do it and I'm wondering if any of the newer screens actually do have this problem.

I DO agree with focus screens and fast lenses; I LOVE it with my 50mm 1.4!

You will not see any different at aperture of 4.0 or smaller. At really large aperture is when you will feel the difference

Are there any down sides to using this focusing screen that you've noticed?

The downside is that your viewfinder will be darker with lens that have maximum aperture of f/4 or slower.

I just installed the EF-S screen in my Canon 40D. The physical installation was easy and I had to set one of the menu options to select the EF-S screen. Focussing was definitely improved but the biggest surprise to me was that metering was now perfect across all apertures. I should explain that I have been using manual OM lenses, 50mm f1.8 and 28mm f2.8. With the original EF-A screen using Av mode I had to compensate exposure -1/3 stop for every f stop change. Therefore at F8 I had to use about -2 stops exposure comp! Now with the EF-S screen I don't have to use exposure compensation at all. Exposure across all apertures is spot on! Hope this helps anyone who has been seeing the exposure problem with manual lenses. Steve
