As people said buy for now. I have the 17-55 and 12-24 F4 and both work well, with image quality probably going to the 17-55.

Feb 19, 2008 08:30 | #17 Thanks, folks. So I've got it down to the 17-55 or the 17-40 L. I realize that I probably wouldn't need 2.8 for landscape, but it'd be nice to have one lens I could use indoors for social events as well. Mark

I know I need to get them both in my hands... I don't even know where the zoom ring is, but my hand finds it easily. For the price of the 17-55, you could get the 17-40L plus a wide angle prime for indoor low light shooting. Just a thought, also one of the many "which lens combo" debates going on in my head. To be honest though, the 17-40 is probably a better landscape lens, so long as it suits your focal range preferences. but for all round versatility - that 17-55 IS lens is one special number! Thanks, that really helps me make up my mind! Mark

I'm not sure if any other bodies are OK, but I seriously doubt the 450D is. Graeme
