On my 10 D when I use DPP I only need to move the sharpness setting to 3 to 5 when I do the same to get a sharp photo with the 40 D the sharpness setting is 5 to 10 is this normal or should I have my camera recalibrated.

For any picture style (including the default standard), the camera's sharpening can be changed. Some photogs remove all in camera sharpening and do it in post, others (like me) prefer some in camera sharpening knowing that a little will need to still happen in post. It's user defined so check you menu first, it could be that the 10D just did more in camera. Scott Evans Photography
