Just got my website back up and running. Its not to full potential yet(some things are not set/working yet, but its up. There is not any flash yet as far as things to click on or whatever. There are only a couple pictures up so far.

Just wanted to get an opinion of how it looks, Nav ease, etc.

in the gallery, the red text over dk grey is a bit rough to read.

personal preference: the splash page idea is so 2001. make the first impression something people can remember you by. (in other words, i don't care for the splash page)

Had gear, but sold it off. Starting back in with a SL1 / kit lens. Looking to expand the collection.

Seems nice, as far as it goes. I really like the fact that it pops right up with no delay.

I Just rechecked it, and what I saw as a splash page is actually your main nav element... apologies for that, as it's not what i interpreted it as the first time i saw it.

but the red text on dark background in the gallery still bugs me :-)

I was playing with it. right now, it has a white-ish text which looks boring. I originally used that red text cause it matched the red "Burdg" in the logo. maybe a lighter red color.

I'm not a fan. It's essentially a splash page (hence amccomis's confusion) with a gallery and a form stuck underneath it. The navigation is 2 links which are lost after the home page and you need to rely on your back button after that.

I would be inclined to just have http://www.burdg.com (external link) go directly into your gallery and include some contact details in the footer and just leave it at that.

Some nice shots in the gallery though :)

Simple and effective. I am not a fan of the recessed 2 sided frame though....

First, I'm not against flash pages, but I feel they need to have useful purpose, or show something off. It's a photographic website, why isn't the very first thing I see a stunning photographic piece? I shouldn't have to actively hunt down photos.

The navigation is horrible and the gallery is disconnected from the rest of your site - the only way back is to return to the index.

Third, I don't like the all-black look as it feels claustrophobic to me, which is enough to put me off your site by itself.

Change the splash. Put content in there. Everything else will follow.

I am actually not likeing the recessed 2 sided frame as much anymore either after lookign at it over and over.

I used black background becuase i thought it would be good to help bring out the colors in the pictures themselves.

Fenster, Im not sure what you mean about the navigation of the site. I thought it was pretty straight forward. What would you change as far as nav? Have Services/gallery/contact icons on every page?

You need to add a persistent navigation menu. When I was rebuilding my new site (see my sig) it was a consistent complaint that once someone arrived at a page they were stuck there unless they hit backspace.

My second issue is the inconsistent appearance, as I said before. You need to integrate your gallery into your website as it's the entire point of your website: You are advertising both yourself and your services. Absolutely everything else is secondary.

My third big issue: Meta tags. Information. Your website is called "Burdg Photography." I don't know anything else. Where is the About page? Where is the meta information for bots? Where are samples of your work? The absolute first thing I should see is a photograph.

Tying into information, navigation and clarity is your font. It looks arty, but it's hard to read, and that's a massive no. I should never at any point have to puzzle out what something is.

And from a security standpoint, have a look at your contact form. I can view the source of the page and get your email, which is what every spam bot under the sun will do, and this defeats the purpose of a contact form.

Kyle, if you'd like more advice or feedback, PM me or email me (external link). Email will probably be faster.

Turbojacket, Its the stretch of road from Helen to Hiawassee(forget the name). 11 miles or so with a bunch of of turns. That road feels like a roller coaster ride even in any car.:)
