Mook,

Without using your EXIF viewer, pick out the Nifty Fifty. :)

I agree with Tony, you are just giving me a hard time here! I'm not badmouthing the 50, I have one and love it. At 5.6 its as sharp as anything, but for pure bokeh, I know I personally couldn't take a picture like this with it, not on my Rebel, anyway:

As for your pictures, my guess is that all of them are, just because it sounds like a trick question! The cat's eye bokeh in the first shot suggests the 50 when higher than 1.8, and I've taken pictures like the last one with my 50...the middle ones I don't know one way or the other.

I would say the broken bokeh on #1 looks like that of the 85L.

You can see the broken bokeh in this image of mine also

I've read its the contacts on the back of the lens that causes this. I think its kinda cool.

Theres very few lenses that the bokeh is as good as the 200 2L. Certainly the nifty fifty is not in that league or is its bokeh as nice as the 85L but its not 5K either or 1.5K either.

Nope, one really was shot with the 50 1.8

Nope, only one. It's the middle one. Shot at f/3.5

You're right about the first one being the 85L and that there's not many lenses close to the 200 2L. I want to be first on the notification list when you make the final switch to Leica (especially if you're selling it for 1.5K). :)

Not sure about the broken bokeh thing though. Never heard that before.

Check it out. Its how I knew it was the 85L. I don't seem to get it with the 24L, 35L or the 200 2L but I do get those straight cut bokeh rings with the 85L.

Pham has noticed it too. Wish I could find where I read it.

Love the bokeh from the 85L and fact I find it to be very cool it is so different than any other Canon lens that I've used.

Oh no it won't go for 1.5K I was referring to the 85L being about 1.5K. I doubt I will sell all the Canon gear anyway not for a while. Probably will get the M9 and a 21 1.4 aspherical to add to the stable. That for sure won't be until next year.

OK, here's a question. I was saving up to get the canon 85mm 1.8 because I've heard raves that it is just a phenomenal portrait lens, and one of the best bargains in the Canon stable. However, I have a Tamron 90mm F2.8 which seems to work pretty well as a portrait lens. I lose a stop and a 1/3 with this lens compared to the 1.8, of course, and indoors have to crank up the ISO, but it is so sharp that even after NR the pics don't look bad, generally. The AF on the Tamron isn't great (it's a macro lens), but I don't shoot action or sports (although I do shoot kids a lot and sometimes it costs me there) and it's terrible in low light (but that may be because I use a rebel, a T2i). OK, after all that, do you think the 85 is enough better to make it worthwhile? Here is another shot of my wife, but one which shows off this lens' bokeh pretty well:

This was shot outdoors at ISO 3200, in pretty good streetlight (at night).

sorry about the train set, Gail....bad weather?

not my tree; this is part of a tree for the Festval of Trees.....very different colours this year....I really liked how the lights from the tree in the distance showed as little spheres of bokeh...
