Another snow scene from Maine. The original field did not have a sky so I had to add one here using the HDR technique.

All rules are meant to be broken, but I think you would have a better shot if you followed the rule of thirds on this one. Put the horizon 1/3 up from the bottom or 1/3 down from the top. Pick what your main subject is, the clouds or the snow, then let that fill 2/3 of the shot. Good job on the exposure.

i liked the first edit from Eagle...really shows the big and bold cloud...
the horizon divides the original image into two equal pieces, and my eyes doesn't know where to concentrate...but that would be the problem with my eyes, if you liked the original better...IMHO...:)

Truthfully, I didn't care for the image all that much. Nothing much to see and is not that compelling. But, this time of the year in Maine, snow scenes are about all you can do when you are too busy to take trips around the State. I would like to head down the coast to see what I can find, but since I slipped on the ice a few weeks ago, I haven't felt much like doing this--at least not until I recover a bit more.

As for splitting the image down the middle into two 'equal' sized areas, they are not that equal--a bit more snow than sky. I guess that is neither here nor there since the image is not that interesting anyway. Just learning my new camera.

I do appreciate the C&C a lot and want to encourage more. In fact I had an image here a week ago (I think it was last week) that got very few comments and I thought it was a much better image than this one.

Thanks.

I think you summed it up, Gary. It just really has no strong subject. It would also help if you'd post smaller. Most of us can't see 1024px vertical inside a browser, so it's very hard to get a feel for the shot. Also, a centered horizon is better than one slightly off center, which looks like an accident. If you aren't going to use the Golden Ratio, go with symmetry.
