I have the Canon EOS 30D with a 28-135 lens....I am EXTREMELY new at this and would like to know if anyone could possibly tell me what setting would be good for photographing at night. I would like to try to get the lunar eclipse tonight if possible. Thanks,
Kim

fotojunkie,
Welcome to the forum :)

My suggestion for the eclipse photos is use a tripod and mirror lockup, if you don't have external shutter cable then use the timer function. If shooting jpeg, Daylight white balance will probably work well.

Luckily the total eclipse is about 52 minutes so you will have some time to try different settings to get what you like. :)

I might give it a try.... but its so cold here brr....

hi kim! yes like john said use your tripod and mirror lockup in the custom functions. also use your cable release if you have one. otherwise
use your timer. turn your camera to manual. iso 400. aperture f6
and shutter speed try 1/30 second. if the moon gets really dark
try a shutter of 1/10 or even 1 full second if you have to.
i will be out tonight with my telescope and 10d hoping for a
couple patches of clear skies good luck!

I use this to shoot pictures of the moon. You don't really need a tripod. Because you have to really underexpose when your shooting the moon.
