exif data 1/60th SS

The AF points are f/5.6 so you'll have to tape the extra contacts if using a reporting TC with a f/5.6 lens. It takes f/8 AF sensitivity to allow a f/5.6 lens with a 1.4x TC or a f/4 lens with a 2x TC.

There is not a Kenko Pro 1.5tc, there is a Pro 1.4 or a non pro 1.5 which is a non reporter.

Help! Is there a T-Con that will allow AF and OS functions on a Sigma 18-200?

Actually, the AF isn't THAT important, but I'd like to retain the OS feature - especially at 280-400mm.

I've searched everywhere for this info, and due to the fact that I live in a small town I can't go down to the camera shop to figure this out (because there isn't one). Tried phoning a few shops in Vancouver, but heard different stories. Any info on this would be greatly appreciated!

OS will still work when fitting a TC. AF will only work if the max aperture of the lens is f/5.6 or better (f/8 if you are using a 1-series camera).

AF will only work if the max aperture of the lens is f/5.6 or better (f/8 if you are using a 1-series camera). If a reporting convertor has its pins taped, AF will TRY if the max aperture of the lens is f/5.6 or better (f/8 if you are using a 1-series camera) but there may be insufficient quality of information for the camera AF to succeed, it may hunt a lot (putting the AF motor at risk if allowed to persist too long). 'Trying' and 'succeeding' are not the same.

You'll need to go the manual focus route but the Kenko Pro works on the Sigma 18-200 OS and the OS works perfectly with it.

Hand held, Sigma 18-200 OS with Kenko Pro 1.4 teleconverter manually focused on a 40D. Shot wide open at f6.3

Thanks for the info, everyone. Read the link to a German T-Con comparison on this thread - I think I'll give the Kenko 1.5 a try......

Thanks re the shot. That shot and a few others I took that day convinced me that my 18-200 OS was sharper than I had thought & it led me to test the AF on the camera more carefully. It turned out that the AF was off just enough to make the lens look soft, and since superzooms are such a compromise I hadn't expected more out of it. After the shot above I mounted the camera, TC & that lens on a tripod & ran a full set of tests which proved that it was the camera & not the lens. The warranty fix cured it perfectly.

5D Mark II + 100-400L + Kenko Teleplus Pro 300 1.4 TC:

Couldn't read through each and every page, but a lot of folks wonder how the 100-400L works when paired with a T-Con. This was taken at dusk, 560mm, shutter at 1/80-sec tripod mounted with mirror lockup. I'd say that the 100-400L takes a T-Con pretty well...

Great shot but can you tell me if the lens was able to auto focus with this combo? I am planning on getting the 100-400l soon and want to know what TC will allow auto focus on my 5DMKII?
John

I'm in exactly the same situation and have the same question as you John.
I also wonder if I should go with the Canon 1.4x II, the Kenko 1.4x PRO300 or the new Kenko 1.4x DGX... ??????
Geeeez, this is a jungle...
