The vagabond has a 20AH battery and 300 W inverter……… I just don’t think that can produce the recycle times and last as long as I need……so I designed my own for exactly the same price as the vagabond …..yes its bigger… yes it weighs a bit more… but it’s better and still decent looking so who cares……

Thought I would share ….

600W (peak 1000) inverter (pure sine wave) + 55 AH battery + 5 amp charger built in (all I need to do is plug it in when its running low!

Tested it with 2 AB1600’s and got exactly the same time (recycle) that I did with wall power ….. **sweet**

Shots from a crapy P+S …. But you get the idea….. +

Good stuff mate.

The Vagabond recycles a single AB1600 at close to same speed, but not two of them.

Wow good job, I wish I was this DIY type guy :)

I was using the Vagabond II unit to power one of my 650ws photoflex strobe on Sunday for a 10 hour shoot. Never had a single issue with recycle time or glitches.

Lugging around a 20lb battery through out the day was pretty punishing, I can only image something heavier.

Any possible way of installing a battery meter? Like to see how much battery life you have?

The prices I'm finding are around $140 for the battery and $330 for the inverter. The Vagabond II sells for $300.

What am I missing?

Yea, reason why you can run your PC off a battery is because yours isn't water cooled

I'm thinking of going into phase change cooling for my PC, but that is very time consuming on my current water cooled system.

Cool idea... but the battery is 40lbs and the inverter weighs a bit I bet.. so you have to lug 50+ lbs around? I understand you shoot sports mainly and that is okay - but that is huge!
