hi, I have a 20D and my pictures always come out overly saturated, especially in the reds and oranges, and with a green color cast. Is the awb in the 20d just not that good? Whenever I put an image into lightroom's awb, lightroom cools the image's temperature and gives it about +13 - +20 magenta (if I remember correctly). Even outdoor ones, albeit a bit less on the color temperature. It's not just indoors though, and it is still oversaturated even if I use a custom white balance.

They look fine on the camera's lcd, but then are oversaturated on the computer screen. It's not a calibration issue though, b/c they look that way on other monitors i've tested too. Maybe it's color management in LR? They still look oversaturated in preview. Do both programs use one color profile?

Are all 20Ds like this, or does mine have a problem? It's kind of crappy color rendition if you ask me. I can fix it in pp, and then they look great, but it's annoying when it should come out of the camera right in the first place.

It almost looks overcontrasty sometimes, though not as often, as well as oversaturated, but the contrast hasn't been increased (intentionally anyway), since all paramters are at 0, jpeg fine
Please don't tell me to shoot raw.

Thanks

I suppose your 20D and my 30D should be about the same. I find AWB gives very good results in daylight and with flash, not so with tungsten or fluorescent lighting. I also found my 300D was the same.

What picture style are you using?

what do you mean by picture style?

oh I found the problem. i had the wb set to shift into the upper right portion fo the graph on wb shift/bkt. My cousin was fooling with my camera, so that might have happened then, since I think it was around then I started noticing it.

Thanks anyway though.

I want to make sure he didn't fiddle with anything else.
anybody know how to find a list of the default menu settings?

Picture styles are one of the menu settings on my 30D. On the 300D they were called parameters. Dunno about your 20D.

Defaults: on the 30D there's a menu function called "Clear settings" that should do the trick.

yeah it is parameters, which I explained produced the same results even at defaults.
i wanted a list of the default settings, not to clear everything, since it would require me resetting everything, but I found one after a little searching... at who's site but Ken Rockwell's.

Thanks though problem resolved :)
