Personally I would crop them much much tighter. Otherwise they are nice photos with right timing. Here are few samples from our database (external link) how "typical" gs photos should be cropped... at least for agency/newspaper usage.

Riley:

Last image posted is great! I'd be curious to know what your exposure settings were on that one and what PP you had to do if any. I shot some stuff at a ski resort a couple weeks ago and all were way too dark as I did not compensate enough for all the white!

Cheers!

Chris

Most everything was shot manual. It was a balance between the sun on the snow and the shadows, I found a setting that wasn't too far either way, and PP'd the rest. Usually for snow you are looking at over exposing between 1-2 stops to get the whites :).

Thanks for the advice. With my sports work, I keep trying to get my self to crop as tight as I can, but for some reason I always fall short, it is like I am afraid or something.

Anyways, I will keep that in mind, Thanks! (Always love seeing your work btw, great stuff.)

Edit: Something more like this I suppose (having looked at that link)

Yup :) Much better. And this one is even better. With crop like this, you have great skiing photo :)

Don't be scared to crop of poles, or part of gates. Head/helmet, skis, body and hands are nice to have, but poles or gates, and whole bunch of snow around really doesn't matter.

Yea, that one I wish I had some more focal length on. I should have moved up the course. Live and Learn :).

Thanks for the info!
