Hi all I have a 4 gig and a 2 gig cf card that I use in my 40D. We are taking our first family vacation to disneyworld for 7 days and I am sure the way I shoot I will run out of gigs.
I was wondering if it is better to buy a 8 gig extreme3 or get a small external hard drive and down load the photos from the camera.
What do you think? I have never downloaded directly from the camera and I dont know what the process is to get the photos to like say a 80 gig wd passport. What do you all think?

Since you'll have a "home base" to return to each evening, I'd invest in an external drive, a card reader and bring your laptop. That way, you can offload images each night and go out for the next day of "Mouse Hunting" with nice, freshly formatted cards.

When you get home, you've got one neat folder of images to xfer to your home computer and "Bob's yer uncle..."

My advice and well worth it from a back up means: https://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=455795 and yes you can use both rebates at the same time for $150.

The hotel you are staying at may have PC's available to use. You may be able to use their PC to transfer the photos to an external hard drive.

Ah, must have missed that part in your OP...

Well, an external drive isn't much good without a computer so your other option is a stand alone storage device but that's gonna be a budget buster as they're a little pricey.

You shoot RAW or JPEG?

With that budget you'd probably best be served getting an 8 gig Extreme III card for $99.95 from B&H Photo then mailing in the $40 rebate.

There are also are photo shops all along International Drive, and they may do the same thing for you.

Thanks for that. I looked at their site and couldn't find anything. I even emailed them to find out if they had a business center to bring my external hard drive and download to that. But they don't have a business center at Animal kingdom. I was going to get a photobank from officemax for $89 for 80gb, but now I may spend that much burning cd's(unless they can do dvd's).

Sorry for hijacking, we are going in April for the first time and I've been following all the different Disney threads I see.

The basic portable storage devices run within your budget. I use a Digital Foci Photo Safe 80G. Bought it on sale at Adorama for $114 regular price is around $144.

You can get a 16GB Sandisk Extreme III for around $110 currently, after a mail-in rebate. Flash cards are getting awfully cheap, and you'll almost always find a use for larger cards. I've used battery powered portable hard drives in the past, and with the current prices of flash cards I don't see a need for one unless I'm going on an extended vacation (like two weeks to a month).

SanDisk's got a rebate program on now (I know, . . . ) with increasing rebates for up to 3 cards. 3x4GB Extreme III CFs get IIRC $80 back and are $60 each pre-rebate. Visa Gift card or store credit.

i took 2000 pics in 2 weeks when i was in florida last year. i had a laptop and a portable HD also with me. if you can afford an external HD, then just get more memory.

i hardly use my external HD anymore - so i guess you're best off getting more memory. 2gb minimum. have fun!!!
