Hewey's Smugmug galleries:
http://derekcecil.smugmug.com/Where%20is%20Hewey? (external link)

This game will be a combination of my favorite pass-time (WAIN) and a neat concept I have seen in the (Where's Nifty? 1&2).

Where Am I Now? (WAIN) thread.

Where's Nifty?! #2 Thread
https://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=167850

I have an old HP 635 2.1mp camera that I obviously no longer use and really isn't worth anything, but it still works just fine. I figure, instead of getting $5 for it on Ebay, I may as well send him out to see the world.

To host Hewey, all that I ask is that you are willing to participate by getting out and taking photos of the area that you live in and upload them here. We are not looking for anything artistic, they don't have to be from a historical place or anything significant. You also must be willing to ship Hewey off to his next host at your own expense and in a timely fashion. You don't have to send him across the world, you could send him off to someone in the same country if you don't want to spend much on shipping or worry about filling out the customs paperwork.

Here comes the catch, you cannot tell anyone that it is you that has Hewey. We will attempt to figure out just where Hewey is. I will also upload the photos to my Smugmug site. Players are free to view Hewey's Smugmug galleries at any time to see all the photos from a particular location and to see past photos and locations.

I have decided to go ahead and start a master list of those interested in hosting Hewey. See post #8 for this list. Hewey will PM people on the list that he is interesting in being sent to when he is getting ready to leave his current host. If you are contacted by Hewey you can either accept him and PM your address to him or decline if you are too busy to show him around a bit

I am thinking that once you get Hewey, get out and take some photos when you can. Take as many as you can, and after a few days, go ahead and start uploading a few of them here. Then the guessing can begin.

There is no reward for the person who correctly guesses Hewey's location.

Don't worry if anything happens to Hewey, he is a throw away camera. I hope he survives many trips, but if not, oh well. He does use up batteries very quickly, so be sure to use rechargeables. I have sent a 128mb SD card and a card reader with him. He also brought along a postcard from South Dakota.

This is a work in progress, if you have any ideas on how to do this better, please let me know.

Stick me on the list. It was fun to host Nifty for a while last year (or was it the year before?).

Sounds like a fun challenge. It would probably be a good idea to get a cheap SD card reader and put that in the box as well (so people don't have to buy one and never use it again).

This sounds good. I'll put my hand up for Hewey to look after him for a little while!

You do not have to follow this list in order (Its probably better if you don't). You do not even have to send Hewey to anyone on this list. If someone you know on POTN would like to host him, or if there is someone you know of that you would really like to see the area that they live in, PM them and ask them if they'd like to participate.

If you would like to be added to the list or taken off of it, let me know by PM preferably, or post on this thread that you would like to be on it.

List of interested hosts.

I've got an old slow one I can toss in there, and possibly some rechargeable batteries and a charger as well.

Is it OK to mail batteries internationally?

I do it all the time with no problems. Just make sure that they cannot contact each other (possible fire hazard)

I'd recommend not sending batteries. You never know what any customs might think of them and decide to confiscate. If they're a standard size, then most people will be able to lay their hands on a couple.

Yeah, that's kinda what I was thinking. Hewey takes 2 plain old AA's. He is rather thirsty though, so I would not recommend using anything other than rechargeable batteries.

I so far have 3 people willing to take Hewey in for the first leg of his trip. I have decided to do a random drawing to decide where he will head off to.

I will be sending him off tomorrow morning, about 15 hours from now ( between 10-11 am Central Time) I will do the drawing when I get up in the morning.

If you would like to be considered, please PM or email me your shipping info (in case I can't get a hold of you after the drawing). I will let the "winner" know by PM, and everyone else by posting here that Hewey is headed out.

Hewey is on his way to his first stop. Now we just need to wait until he reports in with all the amazing sights he is seeing courtesy of his first host.

Here is his last South Dakota sunset (for now at least).
