my strobist kit is...

2 x Sunpack 383's (love them, and very affordable)
2 x 32" white / shoot through umbrellas
2 x Umbrella Bracket
2 x Air Cushioned Black Stand
Skyport radio triggers
2 x optical triggers
2 snoots and foam bounce cards made of fun foam.

It all fits in to one of the tripod cases I had around ( minus the skyports they are in the main gear bag).

here is the link to the stands/unbrella/bracket (external link)

B&H has the Sunpacks new for $79. Seemed like a pretty good deal to me considering they are new and have a warrenty.

Well then i dont need Auto, I will be only using these flashes off camera in Manual mode. I use my 580EX II for on camera work. I have a CPE4 so thats what attracts me to canon, the ability to add extra power to the lights. Does anyone know what stops the 540EZ goes up in?

IE is it: 1/1, 1/2, 1/4, 1/8, 1/16 or 1/2 + 1/3, 1/2 + 2/3 etc like the 580EX is.
Also what is its lowest output available?

Its 1/1, 1/2, 1/4, 1/8, 1/16, 1/32, 1/64, 1/128

I would say the advantage to the 540ez over the Sunpak/Vivitar option would be more power settings, the zoom head so that you can adjust the light source cast on your umbrella even when its all the way out. Not to mention they can be had cheaper in most cases. Build quality.

The only advantage over the Nikon flashes would be the 540 is generally cheaper, thought not always.

Gear- Why do you care? If my image is good it's good, if it sucks it sucks. It's most likely my own fault.

I don't have a complete kit but what I have has worked for the events I shot - basketball games and a Chirstmas Candlelight service at the church. In both cases, I had two strobes mounted on the balcony railing firing at the stage in the church or out over the key at the gym.

I haven't been doing any protraits but may later so I still need to get some stands and light modifiers.

But for now...

(2) 540EZ Speedlights
(1) Sigma EF-500 DG Super
(1) 430EZ Speedlight
(1) Universal set of Skyports + 1 extra receiver
(2) Impact Superclamps
(3) Swivel umbrella brackets
(2) Hot shoe adapters (Flashzebra)
(4) Spring Clamps modded with 1/4 inch bolts to attach speedlights
Ball bungee cords
Black Permacell Gaffers tape
(1) Quantum Battery 1 battery
(2) Homemade battery packs w/4.5ah SLA batteries (6 volt)
(3) Quantum battery modules for the 540EZ's
Several homemade 1/4" dia shock cords with carbiners (fall protection for the strobes)

4x Canon 540EZ's and 420EZ's
4x Stands
2x White Bounce Umbrellas
Various Snoots
Gels
1x White/Gold Reflector
4x Pocket Wizards or Similar
Some clamps

Just wondering what everyone set up is for Strobist work (Prefer Speedlight based kits) and how much did it set you back?

I'm not sure about 420ez strobes... do not know if it is truth, but heard that these got standby mode, which can not be turned of and that is why it is annoying in trying any strobist projects...

my strobist kit consist of:
2x nikon sb25 speedlights
1x nikon sb24 speedlights
1x transmitter +3x reciever radio triggers (chinese ebay ones)
clamps, reflectors, gels, snoot
1x softbox

I'm planning to buy some extra stands, and umberellas...

but got another question:

- do You know how to connect sb25 speedlights (if possible) so these get both syncronized with each other in strobe mode?

Cheers,
Rob
