All......just wondering about a recent shoot I did with the Mark II N + 70-200 2.8 IS. It was an NHL pre-season game I was asked to shoot, and while I wished I had a 300 2.8, I shot with what I have. I just find the images didn't look as good as I expected, moreso when displayed a bit larger.

I shot all in Manual Mode:

1/640-1-1250
ISO 800-1600
Varying single point focus
IS was OFF
AI Servo

Through the glass:

I'm not sure if they didn't hit focus as well as it led me to believe. Any thoughts on what to for the next shoot?

I think in a medium sized gallery they show quite well, I was just a little curious as the out of camera hockey shots I did on my 30D seemed sharper and cleaner.

What type of AF sensitivity did you have? (I forget the CF#) I typically use "Fast" and have a higher rate of sharp images when shooting hockey TTG.

Also, did you bump up the exposure at all in LR?

AF sensitivty?? Good question.....I never checked that out before, in fact...never really knew of it!

Going to check now.

EDIT: It's on fast. IN fact...it seemed to be hitting focus pretty quick....maybe just the noise levels? Also...CF13=0 (45 pts)

Try this link for info. It's for the Mark III but has good info on AI servo custom function settings for specific scenes that should also apply to the II.

There is no adjustment for hitting focus. Fast means it will jump to something else that crosses the focus point fast. Slower means it will delay before wandering off to something that crosses the focus point while your focused on something else.

Depends on the gate you use... the first gate told me to go to the gate where the Coat/Bag Check was, and the guy at that gate let me in. I have AHL media, but not NHL
