I bought my MkIIN with the thought of keeping the 40D as a second body. I ended up selling it a few weeks after getting the N cause I never used it. I shoot small birds and motorsports and while the 40D took some good pics, it would not hold up to what I do with the MkIIN. Also, 8.5 frames a second is a huge benefit.

I just traded my 50D for a 1D MkII and have no regrets at all. The shots that come from it are amazing! The AF and 8.5 fps blow my mind away!

I hesitated a long while before doing it, but I wouldn't go back. I say go ahead and get a 1D MkII!

Hey guys i'm considering selling my 40D and getting a 1dii. I shoot mostly motorsport and was wondering if anyone has any opinions on whether it would be a worthwhile upgrade?

Negatives: Less MP, 12 bit files (I think the 40D has 14 bit files?), can't use EF-S lenses, and you really don't have an UWA.
Positives: Just about everything else.

If you're shooting motorsports there's no contest... Do it. ;)

Do the upgrade from the 40D! I shoot a 30D and have borrowed a friends 1d Mark II and LOVE it! It can do things the 30d just can't do. I am purchasing a 1d Mark IIn in the next few months myself.

I shot this last night to try ISO 3200. NN applied. 70-200 f/2.8. The shutter speed was lower than I would have liked but it was getting dark.

I agree with his agreeing.

Not Motorsports but sports! This is from Cutting Horse Association of Nebraska Futurity (CHAN) that I shot for 4 days September 24-27. I need to look but I think this is the horse that won it.
As always at an indoor horse show the light was unbelievably bad. I kept switching from high ISO available light to flash and back. I am busy putting proofs up for sale on my web site but here is one of the high ISO ones for your comments. This was at ISO 1600 and the fastest shutter speed I could muster with an F/2 lens was 1/500th. And I still had to push process a full stop:( Considering conditions I think maybe it turned out ok but my eyes are blurry from hours of PP!

My 40D is great for backup but I would hate to depend on it for something like this.

Canon 1D MkII, 100 F/2, ISO 1600, 1/500th, F/2. Slight curves adjustment and then Imagenomic NoisewarePro for noise. Very slight sharpening in CS3.

I just sold my 40 and picked up a IIN. Definitely a worthwhile upgrade.

1D2 will do wonders for motorsport!

I'm putting mine up for sale here soon. I don't want to part with her, so I'll start with some glass **sigh**

can anyone tell me i am looking between a 1dmkIIn and a 1dsmkII i like that they are built rock solid and fits my hands better, one obviously is faster in the fps dept.. the other has much higher megapixls. my question is... are the sensors equil in both? if i opt for the faster fps. is the smaller sensor as good as the larger i realize that its not allways about the numbers, i thought that the quality on my old 40d was much better than the 50d i tried i guess that if i am dropping that much money on a body i just want to make the best choice, i do shoot some sports along with other things. how much can you crop in on the 1dmkIIn without it showing??

thanks any advice will help.

The 1DsmkII and the 1DmkIIN have two completely different sensors.

The 1DsmkII has a full frame sensor and the 1DmkIIN has a 1.3 cropped sensor.

The 1DsmkII has a higher resolution sensor (16.7MP vs 8.2MP) then the 1DmkIIN and it delivers in image quality just as well with maybe a slight edge against the 1DmkIIN. ISO performance is pretty similar but the 1DsmkII has a finer looking grain compared to the 1DmkIIN in it's image noise.

As for how much you can crop on the 1DmkIIN's images, it depends what you plan to use them for.

Both cameras have the same AF system if I am correct. It really depends if you need the FPS or not, if you want or don't want the 1.3 crop, and have the extra cash for a 1DsmkII (they run at around $2k-$2.5k US used) .

Sorry by the question perhaps was answered yet on this forum, but wich are the best batteries (not Canon brand) for a 1DMark2? I mean the ones that you are using and recommend.
Thanks in advance!
