Mine has the Ec-B (horizontal split), but I've been planning on replacing it with an Ec-I (cross-split). I also want to get an Ec-D, because I have the same type of grid screen in my film body (EOS A2), and I really like it for landscape/architecture​.

Oh yeah, on the advice of some of you here, I got a lenmar battery the other day. I guess I got lucky, because the latch on the one I got is nicely secure, and so far it's working well in the 1DS, which is a bit of a battery hog.

+1 Just got my Lenmar in the mail. I've got a 6 day shoot starting next Tuesday and definitely wanted it for that. Anxious to see how it holds up.

I was looking at getting the Ec-D. How do you install it?

I like my 1Dmk2 so much....I just bought another one. KEH had one with charger and battery for $645....so I grabbed it. I have been using my 1DS alongside the 1D2....but to be honest, for anything fast paced, the FF body is a bit slow.
I had been thinking that I would buy a Mk3....but every time I think that, all I have to do is look at the images I get from the 1D2....and I realize this camera does what I need to get done. And now they are such a bargain.....amazing.

Can't argue with that price at all!

I used my Mark II properly for the first time in months. I shot a local gig at ISO 1600 with combined stage lights and two wireless flashes. It performed brilliantly as always. Not fussed about any noise and the AF was immense, of course. Chuck it on some contrast and, even in pitch black with changing lights, it would go right on.

I have an EC-S high precision and EC-B split screen for my 1D Mark II. I thought I'd prefer the EC-B because I loved the split on my AE-1 but the EC-S is actually finding more of a life and I use it even with my 100-400 f/4.5-5.6L. The split is good though too, it works even at f/8 (100-400L w/1.4xII)!

You install it using the little tool and instructions they give you. First you drop down the little holding frame, then you pick up the current screen by the little tab, put old screen in box, pick up new screen by tab, place in frame, push frame up until it locks again. Very easy, takes seconds.

That's a great price George. I take it it's a little beat up with lots of actuations? I've been looking for the perfect 1D MkIIn but maybe I should go this route to save some money. Have you owned a 1D Mk IIn in the past?

It's coming from KEH, and the condition is rated as "bargain"....which is one level above "ugly". Attached is a photo of the one I bought from them over a year ago that was rated as ugly ( I gave $415 for it, w/o a batt or charger ).
The one I have coming should look better than my old one based on the rating. I have bought three bodies from them as well as a lens and some other stuff, and I feel their rating system is very fair....I have always been pleasantly surprised when the item came.
Now...having said that....understand that I really don't care what this stuff looks like on the outside, as long as it functions correctly. And I'm not one to worry about the number of actuations. To me, it does not mean much....some die early, some seem to go on forever. Honestly, of all the Canon DSLR's that I have had, the only one that I've had to replace a shutter in was my first 20D....it died right out of warranty at about 25K frames. If they die....I get 'em fixed....it's no different than any other machine I buy....whether it's a car, a washing machine, or a camera.

And yes, I still have and use ( and love the way it works ) the camera in the photo attached. If 1D count is correct, it had about 130K actuations on it when I got it....and I guess I've probably added another 30K to 50K. Not sure...I use it more than I do my 1DS ( full frame )....but they both get used quite a bit.

If you buy used, be sure to get the battery charger, or at least count that in the sale price because the are $350. I already had one when I bought the "ugly" one....so i didn't care about it...and at $415, I figured I was getting a good enough deal that I went for it.
These are fabulous cameras....I am just in awe of how well they work and the images I get.

I bought a 1d2 from KEH w/ batt&charger for 645 as BGN rated. It's got the usual wear and tear around the flash hotshoe, and corners. The thing that got me was that it came with 271k actuations-- The wear was surprisingly low, but I can't tell if it's on it's first shutter, or if it's ever been in for maintenance.

I'm not very worried though, for the price, even if I have to replace the shutter any time soon, it's still a pretty great deal on a 1d2.

how hard is it to take the internal NiMH batteries inside the NP-E3 battery and replace them with new ones or with some eneloops?
