guys : what wide angle lenses besides the 16-35 and 17-40 will work on the 1.3x crop? I may pick up a "in between" lens for a job until i have enough for the 16-35 then re-sell it...i sold my 17-40 and may need to borrow one...OR..just pick up one to hold me off. It's for interior stuff so would be stopping down to f8 or 9 anyway.

thoughts?

Sounds like you need to stop selling stuff so quick!

the sigma 12-24 (im not sure if too many stores still sell it for canon but they definitely have it for nikon). Is it just me but doesn't anyone think its stupid that the 1d mark II doesnt have a multi controller like the 40/50d and 7d cameras.

The full frame Sigma 12-24mm f/4.5-5.6 is around for Canon too. $1100 instead of $800 and not constant aperture like the Tokina 12-24mm f/4. If it's like the Tokina 11-16mm you'll probably be able to use the 12-24mm perfectly to 14mm and with a little bit of vignetting at 12-13mm.

About the multicontroller, the 1D II is just too young. The 40D introduced it in 2007 and the 1D III got it too though they just put it where the II has the wheel lock so in portrait orientation it is almost impossible to use anyways. Honestly the multicontroller isn't that useful for selecting from 45 AF points anyways, it is much more useful on the 40D where a single press selects from the 9 AF points.

 That would suck having to tick through all the AF points!

oh my goodness, i am just fed up. Alright so I bought my 1d mark II from adorama from 650 dollars, they deliver it a little late, no biggie. They forget to deliver the battery but give a power connector thing to connect to an outlet and its a friday so i cant test my 1d mark II for another 4-5 days, in the mean time i check the shutter count (adorama claims it was 120k which isnt bad) but it really is 197k! I get the battery and it is defective and wont hold a charge. Yep this experience sucks, return!

Sorry to hear that! Considering how old the 1DII is, it may be difficult to find a used battery that will hold a decent charge. At this point, why not just order a new battery (3rd party) for the camera. You do have your trusty 7D to hold you over until everything with the 1DII is squared away, right? Are you losing money from paid gigs by not having two camera bodies?

Im sort of a semi pro enthusiast so no its not a big deal if i dont have a second body, plus after sort of using the 1d mark II i realized it wouldnt work for alot of my situations which deal with very low light situations which require iso 1600 and up alot of times. I dont feel like putting money into a camera with 197k exposures on it already. I learned a trusty lesson Dont buy used, people usually sell things used cause there is something wrong with them or their life time is up. I rather just end this painful experience, thank goodness for return policies!

Any i'll sort of miss this camera, the way it chugged away at 9fps, and its 45 point af. I'll just put a grip on my 7d and call it a day.

There's nothing wrong with buying used. My 1DII was purchased used (as with most of my lenses), I have no idea how many clicks are on the shutter and really don't care. It works perfectly and has never given me a reason to doubt it. Believe it or not, it's usually the first camera that I pick for an outing.

A grip for your 7D sounds like a good plan! The way the 7D prices are falling you should be able to add a bit more cash to the $650 that you paid for the 1DII and get a second 7D:D

i guess i chose the wrong place to bash on the 1d mark II (on the fan club wall lol). Anyway ya its feels like a great camera, but wouldnt you be mad if you got two defective batteries in a row and the shutter count was close to 200k on a camera that just about fails at that point (im just wonderin about who shoots that much!) I hope all you 1d mark II owners get a good life out of this camera and enjoy it. Also after reassessing my equipment i realized i needed some longer telephotos for outdoor sports and well i rather spend it on that then on another camera

That shutter count you're reading has to be taken with a huge grain of salt. Only a Canon center can read the actual shutter count which has been likely done by Adorama which is why they quoted the 120k clicks.

On mine, I know the shutter is around 150k clicks or so but if you read the count the way you are, it reads it has about 50k clicks since I've loaded settings files which overwrite the user readable count.

3rd party Lenmars can be had for $31 from Amazon here: http://www.amazon.com …ics&qid=1280290403&sr=8-2 (external link)

Sorry the 1D2 wasn't the right fit for you.

Have you tried ID count? I found it very reliable. Check your shutter count from this link and tell us what is says just for grins.

OK, I didn't read your post close enough. You are correct. If you overwrote the setting files it won't be accurate.
