I use * to focus and the assist button next to it to focus the registered AF point so if you register a point you can do that too. This way I can quickly switch between two AF points which I use all the time.

Press AF select and FEL at the same time to register an AF point to the assist button and change CF 18 to 2 to have it momentarily use the registered point while you hold the assist button, it will focus at the same time if you have * focusing enabled with CF 4 to 1 or 3 (I prefer 3).

Can the Mark III do this, switch between both points and do AF when you press/hold them? I'm not sure it can, you switch between regular and registered points with the multicontroller on the III, right?

You could always use CF IV 2 on the III to swap the * and AF-ON buttons ;-)a I can do that with my 40D to make my 4 bodies the same (The Rebel T1i is like the 1DII, it doesn't have AF-ON, just * and AF select).

Hey guys, I hate to say it but, I'm making the move over to full frame with the 5d MarkII. I hate to see this camera go and I wish I could keep it but I'm a college student and I have bills to pay! With that being said, I'm looking for $1050+pp and shipping if you're interested. It was just cleaned and had a shutter replaced by CPS.

Shame to see you go but from your portraits I can't say I'm surprised. If you mostly do portraits then full frame is probably the way to go. I've got two already so can't help you with the sale though

^^^Thanks!

I'll give that a shot when I get home today. With the Mark III switching AF points is so quick and easy with the multi-controller that I only have one registered AF point and have not felt a need to even register more. I thought about switching the AF-ON and * button on the III but I like the position of the AF-ON button...it's more natural to me.

As fast as pressing AF-ON and *? I doubt it, I have the multicontroller on my 40D and I don't find it that fast especially since you have to press the multicontroller first and THEN press the AF-ON button to focus, two presses while I do it in one press on the 1D Mark II.

It's one of those things that has become second nature to me (YMMV). I don't recall missing any shots because I couldn't change my AF point fast enough with the controller:D I do use my 1D3 most of the time so just like with anything else repetition and practice will make perfect.

Well here's a worst case scenario with ISO 3200. Shot in an almost pitch black theater at ISO 3200, f/2.8, 1/10th, 70mm, handheld using the 1D2 with the 70-200mm 2.8 IS. I pushed it in post a bit more (around 1/3rd - 2/3rds of a stop). Only noise reduction used was default luminance reduction in DPP (2/20) and some chroma reduction in DPP (can't remember how much exactly).

This was from before I sent the cam in for repair so it's noisier then what I get now and is showing some banding but still isn't bad for the conditions.

Tell me about it! I thought my 28-105 was decent, but now that I've used this, I can't wait to save up for a 17-40!

na get a 24-70 or 24-105 to replace that lesser 28-105, those are great walkaround lenses on a 1d.
