Not ISO 1600 but I think I am liking this camera. Taken this evening with storm coming in.

Thank you.
Here is one at 1600 with no noise reduction. Yes I am bored and it is still storming outside. The cats are the only ones that do not give me the death stare or a hand jester when I point the camera at them. :)
The Camera is great!

That's a great shot! Lightning is so much fun to shoot :D I wish we'd get more storms here though. Only had one decent one all summer :(

na get a 24-70 or 24-105 to replace that lesser 28-105, those are great walkaround lenses on a 1d.

I'd kill for a 24-70, but it's a bit too much for me right now. That's why I'm looking to get a 17-40. Plus, I'd like to have the wide angle. If I find a good price on a 24-105 though, that would be great.

Trust me, stick it out for a 24-70. It would be the perfect compliment to the 70-200.

My 24-70 is the lens that seems to be welded to my camera, though I really like using my 85 f1.2

Yeah, I guess it wouldn't take too much longer to save for a 24-70. Plus, it's the lens I want more than any other right now. I just need to get a better job. $60/week isn't going to cut it. Plus, I owe my parents $600 for the lens. I saved up all summer to be able to pay for half of the 70-200.

Here's an ISO 1600 shot of the West 4th St NY Subway platform from when I was in NY this past Spring.

Just picked one up from a member here, and the biggest thing I notice aside from the body itself- thinner depth of field! With my 135mm 2.8 (although it being an old MF) it felt really good and the bokeh was absolutely amazing!

This is my first time dealing with Ni-MH batteries. How should I be recharging these (to avoid battery memory loss or whatever its called)?

My biggest question though- when do people (if ever) use the voice recording capability?

It indeed is an amazing camera!

As for batteries, it's typically a good idea to have the battery die on you while using it or be close to before swapping it, the lower the battery charge when you charge it the better... as for refreshing them it's a good idea to do every now and then as it just basically discharges the battery then charges it.

As for voice recording, I am unaware of how to even use it...

@asimimasa I don't bother with the voice thing just because I haven't had a situation where I thought it would be useful.

@thoff how did you take that lightning pic? I understand timing but that composition is so on point. I was tempted last week to get a lightning trigger to catch some storms as the season is coming up soon

My biggest question though- when do people (if ever) use the voice recording capability?

Example: Lock photo and attach voice tag: "Player 6, scores to make the game 3 - 0, player 6 - 36th min"

Do this for a couple of photos. Then either send it to the photo editor (using photomechanic you can choose just to download locked files and the sound byte with it) send it, he can then caption it and uses your voice tag to help. Or you can caption it youself using you own memo.

If your constantly sending to editors, then it would be very handy!!!

Run the batteries down and charge them fully, otherwise use the refresh function of the charger to do this for you (it will run the battery down to nothing and then do a full charge if you leave it overnight).

As for voice recording, I don't use it often but it is cool when I need to make a note or something. I've recorded the beach or bird calls to go with pictures too, sort of old school I guess compared to making a video with a T1i/7D/1DIV but hey, I'd rather have a high res image than a <2MP video cap though of course you can take higher res stills with the T1i/7D/1DIV as well...

To be honest I just set the camera on manual mode with the fstop F8, ISO at 100 and played with the shutter speed till I found something that looked good on the camera screen which was about 8 seconds. I also used my trusty four legged tripod, the chair that is on our front porch. I sat in one and set the camera on the other and just pressed the shutter button to see what I might catch. :)
Here is another from that evening.

I've used it a few times to collect names at events and then just for general notes if needed about a particular photo. It's not the highest quality mic but gets the job done for those purposes in most cases.

When i have to shoot backstage for the Spooky demenseia show i have to use ISO 1600 just to just get a decent shutter speed. When exposed correct Noise isn't really bad at all. When you start boosting the exposure etc during PP then it falls apart quickly.
