I did back focusing for a bit but decided shutter was a tad easier for me

I just hate it when you press the shutter button and it tries to focus again and it can't and you miss the shot, drives me mad, Mad, MAD! So for me, the fact that pressing the shutter always, Always, ALWAYS takes a picture when I press it is for the best. I'm an old skool manual focuser so it's how I used to work anyways, focus first, then take the picture with no delay.

I know you can focus and recompose in ONE SHOT mode with shutter button focusing but the hair trigger on the 1D means I sometimes take shots I didn't want to take if I try to hold the button halfway for a long period. It is easier for me to feather the back button to focus as I need and then just press the shutter fully when I want to take a picture.

When it comes to that subject....works for me !
When it come to BB focus or shutter button focus....I'm not smart enough to try one, and then the other ! So....I tried BB focus and hated it....went back to shutter button and get along fine.

I'm currently exhausting MULTIPLE outlets to try and attain a press pass for Dave Matthews Band. This is proving difficult.

We went to the Madikwe game reserve in S.Africa last week, here are a few bird shots taken with the Mark11N. The lens is a 100-400L, usually at full stretch and wide open.
Most were shot early morning and late afternoon when the light is sublime, a sort of creamy gold colour!

crimson breasted shrike

A very difficult and frustrating bird to photograph. Being small it hides in bushes and only a part of the bird is visible, usually the crimson breast.
I made dozens of shots but this is the clearest one despite the obvious OOF blade of grass over the lower half of the bird.
