Yeah, I quite happily snap away at ISO1600 on mine, too. Amazing the quality of the ISO on the Mk2 considering how old the cam is ....

Hello guys. I'm thinking about upgrading my 1D classic to the Mark II, one of the main reasons being the ISO handling on the mark II.

How does the 1D mark II ISO handling compare to a different body? I heard around it's about the same as a 40D but wasn't sure.

The ISO on the 1D2 and 1Ds2 up to 1600 is great! Personally, I don't use 3200 on them, cos it really impacts the quality of the image, but it could still be used in an emergency .... plus, there's always PS. I don't know about the 40D, but I know the (high) ISO on the 1D's is noticably better than that on my 30D. Go for it, it's an amazing tool!

I use both a 40D and some 1DII bodies and I much prefer the 1DII at 1600 and 3200 ISO, even 800 ISO. It has bigger pixels which have a great image quality to them. I'll use 3200 on my 1DII in rare cases while I've turned it off on my 40D, too much banding on my 40D at 3200 ISO in my opinion. I still like the 40D for some things, it is useful to have the 1.6x reach and live view at times and it makes a smaller second body at times but I much prefer the 1DII.

my 1dmk2 came in yesterday, very happy with the feel of the body, to bad the battery was DOA so it'll be 3-5 days before I can actually go out and shoot this bad boy!

Awesome. The 1DII will probably be next on my list. Is the battery consumption the same as the 1D classic? I'm getting maybe around 200 shots per battery (dead cell OEM batterys)

Still debating whether I want to keep the 1D classic as my backup and sell my 10D for however much I can get it for.

The battery is much better on the Mark II. I get 2000 (two thousand) shots on a good battery on my 1D Mark II if I don't chimp much!

The 1D classic still has some cool things, 1/16000th and 1/500th flash sync speeds so I'd keep that as a backup unless you want something smaller in which case the 10D I guess.

Some days I take my 1DII and 1DIIN, other days I'll pair one with my 40D instead to go a bit lighter and smaller. I have a huge Lowepro CompuTrekkerAWPlus bag which carries everything but it weighs over 40lb/18kg fully loaded so it is only for very serious trips.

Nice shot! Love the lines leading into the distance (phone/power lines and road side marking). The tree behind the models head acts like a sort of halo - is that on purpose?
