Hi everyone,

my 1D MKII showed a blinking battery symbol today. That's fine I wanted to run it down then charge it. This is a original Canon brand NP-E3.

The last shot I took it sounded like either the shutter/mirror didn't return. I turned the camera off and re-seated the battery. When I turned the camera back on I could hear either the shutter/mirror returning to position.

Can weird things like this happen on a low battery? Am I doing damage by running the battery that low?

Thanks,
Ben

I've heard of a lot of weird things that happen and also a lot of people will get err99's or the likes. Usually as soon as it starts flashing for me I quit shooting that battery unless the "shot" is about to happen which I did have happen to me when I unexpectedly went and shot the Giants crowd watching the world series and the victory celebration there afterwards.

I've had mine for the past few months now.. LOVE.IT. Just found this thread and thought I'd start posting. From here on, there is only expansion.. and I'm loving every minute of it.

going from a 50D to the Mk II was a pretty intense transition, but I'm so glad I was able to make the switch. Turned my life around... :P

Thanks for the info.

I guess I should have looked through the viewfinder to see if the mirror was actually flipped up. When I took that last shot on low battery it didn't display any error. All it did was just leave the mirror up, and then wrote to the memory card before shutting off. Other than that the camera works fine on full charge.

I guess the moral of the story is to stop using the camera when the battery is blinking. Every once in a while I can use the reconditioning function on the charger.

I totally understand what youre saying George and appreciate it
Im feeling my 20D just isnt "cutting" it as far as noise handling and Mark speed AF for the low light conditions and fast paced action I shoot.
I love my 20D to death, but I feel its time to upgrade maybe and learn a more experienced platform.

Ryon,
Sounds like you have thought it through. I think you will find that once you start shooting with a one series, nothing else is appealing from a build and handling standpoint. These things really do feel like they are carved from a solid block of unobtanium.
And yes, I found that coming from 20D and 50D bodies, that I actually have to shoot fewer images with the one series because my keeper percentage went up due to more accurate AF and AE.

For whatever it's worth, KEH has a Mk2 for $525 right now, but it does not come with a charger. Be aware that if you buy a one series w/o charger, buying a Canon charger separately is expensive.

regards, george w

I just recently purchased a 1dmk2n and I believe it has an iso banding problem. The person who sold it to me agreed to take it back and return my money but I just want to confirm whether or not it is a problem. My 1dmk2 does not exhibit the banding at high iso. Regardless, the camera is going back but would all of you please tell me if that is the problem or not. Exif data is intact. Thanks!

I need to stay out of the buy/sell forum. It's burning a hole in the wallet...

Yikes!! Haven't owned a 1D mark IIn, as of yet, but scary! I do love my 1d Mk II though, the high ISO is superb, as shown above ;)

Hopefully that's just a problem that can be fixed.. I would like to know as well if that is an issue with all Mark IIN's or just his camera.. I am very close to pulling the trigger on Mark IIN.

My 1D Mark 2 had a similar issue that I sent it in for under a Mack warranty. They ended up replacing a few of the internal boards (can't remember specifically which ones, if you go way back in the thread I think I had posted it). That is not the normal performance you should be getting.

Yes you have a bit of banding if you shoot high iso's alot then it needs looking at, for me who only shoots upto 1600iso I would leave it a while..
