We had the kids Easter egg hunt this morning and I didn't feel like lugging my 1D MKII so I used my wife's Pentax P&S. The size was nice as it fit easily in my pocket but the AF was really really slow, struggled to change the f-stop (haven't shot in Auto/Green & JPEG since I can remember), and found it hard to shoot in the bright light as the screen was washed.

So what did I learn...I really do love my 1D and even though lugging it around with two kids is tough at times it's well worth it.

Nothing like the one before me, but here is the first shot I'm happy with using my 17-40. It arrived Thursday and today was the first time I've had any time to really shoot with it. So far I'm loving it on my 1D mkII

That's a great shot. I love the sunlight on the driver side! And the sun itself. And the blue sky!

question for you guys. does the Ec-S focus screen fit the 1D mark ii? i see it's for 1D 2n.

if it does fit, which custom function should i select to have the proper exposure metering?

thanks

Looks like C.Fn-00-2 is for focusing screen Ec-S.

I bought a 1DIIN earlier today from eBay and can't wait to use it. I think I read this thread for a good few hours just to make sure I got a good idea of what to expect. So I will be choosing between that and a 5D (I already know what a 5D brings to the table, but the AF is lacking when I'm trying to take pictures of two toddler boys). Hopefully I'll get both bodies later this week or early next.

Does a 35mm f2 work well with a 1DII? How about a Sigma 50mm f1.4?

Still haven't had a chance to shoot any sport with my MkIIN yet, but the upgrade in frames per second over the 1Ds come in pretty handy for kids as well...

the 5d is a great companion to the 1dii. in fact, i have my settings in adobe camera raw to upsize the output to 11.2 megapixels from the 1dii. seems to do a great job, making the image size very close to that of the 5d. different cameras, different functions, but work very well with eachother.

Heres my combo....

its actually the 200mm 1.8L. wish to death i could just buy the damn thing already, but alas, i rent it locally for every wedding. it is my GO TO portrait lens. it also tracks very well on the 1dII...and produces pure magic on the 5d.

the rental fee is really a steal. i pick up friday and return monday for the low price of 45 bucks.

as an aside...the black rapid does a good job of supporting the beast as i run around. thought i would throw that out there for anyone wondering if the black rapid is robust enough for their use......

and in the left hand is a gripped 5d mark I with the 28-70mm 2.8L and 580EX
