By the way, I remember from my 350D that it wouldn't accept CF with lots of capacity, does the
same thing count for this one ?
Odin

I have 2x 8GB cards in my IIn. I'm sure others have used higher capacity cards, but with a total of 16GB in mine I can take around 1500 shots, more than I ever need in one day....

With latest firmware, I believe you are able to use any size card though I could be wrong but as jay_l_a said, 2 - 8GB cards will give you over 1500 shots. I have an 8GB CF and 4GB SD in mine and have found that to be plenty for my shooting style.

i Use Sandisc 16gb CF and Sandisc 16gb Class 10 SD, old firmware would allow them to work but would not show correct capacity, now it works and displays fine.

I have a 32gb SD card in mine.

Why use a CF if not using an IIn? Its slower than an SD and you can't assign certain formats to each slot anyway.

Well, my Canon 7D was stolen....

Nice huh? I'm looking at a canon 1DII!

Someone is selling me a 1DII with 52K actations for 700.00 is that a good deal, the body has some wear on it... but the camera works...

also, when buying used, what should i look out for on the 1Dmkii?

thanks!

If "some wear" means pretty clean and it comes with the charger and a couple of batteries, then that is fair, IMO.

seems about right, but if you can find a IIn you'll be happier with the screen

It's been shown that write times and flushing of the buffer on the 1D2 is quicker using the CF card slot then it is to the SD slot but personally I shoot the SD slot as my primary since the laptop I work on has an SD card reader built in and it is one less thing I have to carry and convenient along with me not filling the buffer all the way up where it would matter. Having a 16-18 deep RAW frame buffer is a wonderful thing ;)

Any chance you can find where you read that? Dpreview disagrees, and although I read (re: heresay) that with the newest firmware CF is close to SD speed, I have not read CF is faster. The newest CF cards are faster than a class 10 SD card, but is this true in camera?

IMO, it's not the speed of the card that is the issue. It is the ability of the camera buffer to write to the cards. A guess would be the bus is the choke point for the SD card. Whatever it is, the buffer is definitely a faster flush to the CF card than it is to the SD slot.
When I am shooting a lot of action, I turn off the SD card slot.

Interesting.

Guess I will get a couple more CF cards. I had been using one very large class 6 SD.

Question: Is there a maximum speed the camera can write at? I assume at some point the CF cards (as they can write ~150MB/s now) is faster than the camera can transmit to the card. Anyone have any info? There is a big price difference between staying below 25-40 MB/s write speed and stepping up above that.

Thanks again George.

You're welcome. From a practical standpoint, I find the only time the slow-to-flush-buffer issue is a problem is when shooting repeated action sequences. For instance, when shooting at a horse show, if I only have one rider in the arena, then writing the 18 frame RAW buffer to the SD card is fine. But if I have multiple riders in the arena at the same time, then when I make the transition to the second rider, and rattle off a few more frames, I can end up having to wait while the buffer clears. Less of a problem when writing to the CF card. Since CF cards are so cheap now, I simply bought several of them ( Sandisk 8gig ultra, which I think are 30 mb/sec )
