I love how a bit of cardboard is used as a hood when everything around it looks so expensive.

Sony makes viewfinder shades but:
1) They're expensive and not very durable
2) They don't fit in the camera case well

Cardboard works best since each operator can make it the size they want/need.

I'm not a camera operator by trade but we have one guy who is a pretty knowledgeable amateur astronomer and during night races, with a 2x extender rolled in, he routinely gets easily identifiable shots of Saturn (including the rings.)

Shooting from the top of the grandstand at Daytona, we saw the last Shuttle launch from KSC. It was only for a couple of seconds before it dissapeared into the clouds but at 2x, it just about filled the frame vertically.

The 100x has amazing resolving power...

And, parts of it are cardboard held on with duct tape. You'd think that for what it costs it would come with a viewfinder hood.

On the other hand, no hood means it's not an "L". Standard Canon policy, price be damned.
