wassup guys just joined up on the forum and i am a owner of a brand new canon rebel XT. i have always loved photography but never really had the money to buy a decent camera. so i got one as a early birthday gift. i just got it 2 days ago and only shot a few times. i love the camera but i would like to progress a lot more. i usually tend to shoot cars because thats another hobby of mine..racing and working on cars.

here are some pics token by me with my p@s canon sd630 which is now obsolete to me lol.pics are slightly enhanced through photoshop

i was praticing panning shots today with cars going by the front of my house and most of them came out pretty blurry....what setup should i use?
(shutter speed and aperture etc.)

thanks

Panning shots take practice. The settings depend on your skill level as well as the lighting conditions.

The idea is to eventually have the moving car in focus with the background showing motion blur, which requires a relatively slow shutter speed. The cameras AF mode should be AI Servo to track the moving card, with, I would think, a spot focus pointing at the spot most critical for sharpness, such as the front of the car as it's approaching, but you'd shift that position as it's passing.

You might in the beginning set your shutter speed to 1/100s and try it out, using an aperture which will get you a good exposure. Pan by swivelling at the hips. Practise until you get good sharp cars, then slow the shutter speed and practise more, then repeat until you have the effect you want.

Have fun!
